Failed prohibition

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Actually we're as well known for country music as the blues.
:puke-left:
And the only car crash I ever had was here. Gave me the blues as well as loose teeth when my face hit the windshield.....but I retained the teeth and to this day have never had a filling in a tooth. I still remember seeing the spider web like fissures in that windshield as I hit it and that was nearly fifty years ago. bam
I still well remember my Memphis crash, too, wasn't as bad as yours, though. 44 years ago for me. Given our age difference - let's blame TN back then rather than our 18 year-old or so driving "skills".

Absolutely; my crash was on a two lane unlit state road somewhere near Fall Branch. Had there been street lights and clear weather instead of dark and rain, I would have been fine. The fact that the three of us had been drinking Mogen David 20/20 ("the wine of the century" per the label) would not have mattered in the least. And as it turned out, that did not matter. I was charged with reckless driving, which I consider to be rather subjective. whatever

Illinois legalizes pot. Maybe this will help lower the murder rate in Chicago, even though Chicago has been one of the most, if not the most, violent city for crime for well over a hundred years......I'm reading a book about the Pullman labor strike now. The Chicago crowd was tough, even in the face of Federal troops.

So how did Chicago get to be so violent? Oh yeah, prohibition, that funded the mobs.

Fwiw, Chicago's murder rate is not even close to our worst, doesn't make the top 30. People think otherwise because:

It's so large that its absolute numbers of murders is large.
The entire metro area, like #28 Chicago Heights, IL, gets lumped in with it.
For more than 11 years rightwingers have been deceptively attacking Obama by exaggerating Chicago's murder rate.

Depending on one's definition of 'purple', I figure:

14 in red states
7 blue
9 purple

Dairy Queen employee who made viral 'marijuana' cake said she was fired on her birthday for the mix-up

The Dairy Queen employee who made a viral marijuana-themed cake said she was fired on her birthday for the mix-up.

Cassandra Walker, the Georgia woman who made the cake, told USA Today that it was her manager who misheard a customer's cake order over the phone, mistaking "Moana" for "marijuana."

The ice cream cake, which read "Happy 25th Birthday Kensli," was decorated with green and white frosting and featured a large cannabis leaf. Next to it was a "My Little Pony" character with blurry red eyes smoking what appeared to be a joint.

Walker said her manager told her it was OK to make the marijuana-themed cake.

"The manager stood behind me while I pulled the images off the internet," the mother-of-two told USA Today. "She walked by as I decorated the cake. As I boxed the cake up, she was the one who walked it up to the front."

Walker said Dairy Queen fired her for the mistake on July 8 — her birthday. A representative from Dairy Queen confirmed with INSIDER that she was terminated and that the company later offered Walker her job back, which she declined.

Walker said she turned down the offer because she wasn't pleased with the way Dairy Queen handled the situation.

"To be at this job for almost a year and not have a write-up, not be in trouble, and to just be let go because of mistake, it's not funny to me," she told USA Today.

The recipient of the marijuana-themed birthday cake was Kensli Taylor Davis, 25, of Milledgeville, Georgia.

Davis is a huge fan of "Moana," a popular animated 2016 Disney film about a Polynesian princess. For her 25th birthday, Davis' mother decided to get her daughter a cake based on the film.

"So, my mama called and ordered me a cake telling them how much I loved Moana. (Because really I do)," Davis wrote in a Facebook post. "Needless to say these people thought she said marijuana."

"My sister picked it up and Facetimed my mama the minute she saw it," Davis told INSIDER. "We all died of laughter because it was obviously an honest mistake." ...

"When the customer picked it up and said it was not what she ordered, we immediately apologized for the error and offered to redesign it the way she originally intended," Autry continued. "The customer said it was fine, paid for the cake, and left."
I'm sorry for Cassandra Walker, but  8-) . The pony's red eyes are brilliant!

'Meth-gators': Tennessee police warn flushing drugs could create hyper-aggressive alligators
"Folks … please don’t flush your drugs m’kay," the Loretto Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

A police department in Loretto, Tennessee, is asking residents to refrain from flushing drugs, such as methamphetamine, down the toilet to prevent "meth-gators."

In the Facebook post, the Loretto Police Department wrote that on Saturday, officers executed a search warrant on a home and discovered the occupant trying to flush meth and drug paraphernalia down his toilet....

"Furthermore, if it made it far enough we could create meth-gators in Shoal Creek and the Tennessee River down in North Alabama," police wrote....

But Kent Vliet, an alligator biologist and the coordinator of laboratories in the department of biology at the University of Florida, said he has never once heard of an alligator on meth.

"I've worked with alligators for 40 years, and I generally can answer any question someone gives me about them. This one's throwing me for a loop," Vliet told NBC News....

"I would guess they might be affected by it, but they tend to not react to drugs in the same way we do, and I don’t know if it would take a little or a lot to get an alligator to do something on meth," Vliet said. "I think it’s a ridiculous notion. If you flush meth its going to be diluted."

Vliet added that people who are not familiar with gators tend to over-exaggerate their dangers, adding that the reptile does not seek out humans to harm or eat.
In other words, the cops are sleazy liars, again. Plus, there are no alligators in Tennessee. This is a stupid emotional appeal from dishonest cops that really don't care a bit about Alabama wildlife. Anyhow, “meth gators" is what we normal people call Repug Tennessee pols.

Comments:
sounds like the latest B movie
If you stop raiding the homes of suspected drug dealers they will have no need to flush their stash.
I just found the name for my fantasy football team this year.
:D
Tennessee is a beautiful state full of ugly, ignorant people.
It sounds terrifying until you realize that the gators won't have any teeth....
Are they as dumb as it sounds in that police dept.?
You’re a dealer, cops busting down your door, are you really going to give a rat's behind about getting an alligator high ?

I was skeptical of CBD. There seems to be a massive craze going on lately. I've tried the vape pens and noticed a small effect but nothing super noticeable Recently I tried some gummies. 20mg and I feel incredibly relaxed and calm. There's definitely something to it, and I definitely recommend if you have difficulties falling asleep or relaxing.

A family found more than half a million dollars in cocaine on the (Fripp Island, SC) beach during their vacation

Comments:
In other news a family was apprehended when they were causing a disturbance by running around town fast with no clothes on.
Man... I never vacation in the right places... last time I went someplace, all I got was sunburned.
I told the wife we should skip Disney and vacation in South Carolina....
After turning in his find to the police the husband proceeded to paint the house, sealcoat the driveway, and mow everyone's lawn on his street with a push mower.
I feel ripped off, last time I went to the beach all I found were some seashells.
Square grouper season is now open. Bag limit is 20 kilos.
Makes me wonder just how many bricks are washing up and being found that are not being reported.
