A different perspective here... http://techcrunch.com/2012/06/05/is-the ... rnet-nope/
According to ITU Secretary-General, Dr Hamadoun I. Touré,
"You will, I am sure, have seen and read various media articles talking about the UN or the ITU trying to take over the Internet.
Let me say quite plainly and clearly: This is simply ridiculous."

That would be Commentary Magazine, the self-described "flagship of neoconservatism." It's about as non-partisan as Fox News.O Really wrote:lawl, Doc - where DO you find this stuff?
In other words it's not so much scare-mongering about the internet as it's scare-mongering about Obama. The same memo insists that the Obama administration must continue to support open access to the Internet and stresses that its efforts to push further “liberalization of international telecommunications networks” would be completely successful at Dubai. But it’s not likely that an administration whose response to Muslim outrage over an allegedly derogatory video on YouTube was to seize and detain its producer is going to be a strong advocate for free speech—or for keeping the Internet free from nation-state control.
(No, the administration did not detain the producer. Not for a derogatory video or anything else. But a local prosecutor noticed that said producer had violated his parole...)

That Tolstoy quote sounds like it might not be totally accurate. Have to check it out.
