I doubt there are any casual Trump supporters anymore. More than two years of intentional division, Us vs. Them, pandering only to the base, insults, antagonism, and betrayals has been Trump's most notable "accomplishment" of an retrievable broken electorate and maybe society. Good thing is that in almost all states other than the third-country ones, there are more than enough voters against him to run him off on a rail. Getting these people out to vote - or not - is what lost last election and could lose this one. It's time for mobilization efforts. No more minds are going to get changed.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 8:28 pmO Really,
True for diehard Trumpettes, but I gotta hope that "Trump did (stupid thing)...Trump did (offensive thing)...Trump said...Trump did..." picks away at his marginal support. 2020 could be the same as 2016 in every way but if just 39,000 votes flip in 3 key states the Dem wins the WH. Maybe he's just lost some Jews, some Scandinavians and even a few evangelicals with this week's stupidity.

I'm not sure I completely agree, the polls have been shifting slightly one way or the other. However, you are correct about turnout, getting our side to show up AND convincing cons that could never vote Dem that 45SHOLE is so rotten that they just stay home out of impotent frustration.O Really wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 10:27 pmI doubt there are any casual Trump supporters anymore. Re: President* Trump
Back in the day, you could start with the assumption that about 40% of the voters are going to be Republicans and 40% are going to be Democrats, and the campaign is over and the election decided by the 20% in the "middle." That assumption wasn't totally accurate in all cases, and maybe not exact in any, but was a pretty good rule of thumb. So Trump's approval is way high on the hard-core Republicans, but overall has hung comfortably under 40% of all voters forever. Nobody with Trump's numbers can win a two-person race unless the other side doesn't show up. Unfortunately, Dems have a history of not always showing up when needed. And it doesn't help that every Dem with the entry fee thinks s/he ought to run for President, and then Biden carps about Bernie! who carps about Harris who carps about Warren who carps about Pete...yada. Doesn't anybody remember the last half of "United we stand..."?

Re: President* Trump
In a country where 50% of the eligible electorate doesn't show up on one national election day every four years and 75% doesn't show up on midterms, it's very possible that casual trumpers could be oblivious to all the crap that's gone on the last couple of years.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 11:00 pmI'm not sure I completely agree, the polls have been shifting slightly one way or the other. We might be paying a certain amount of attention, doubt the majority of the electorate is.

Very true that many don't pay attention or just don't care anymore. As an example, you can see several boys in the Hitler Youth photo not saluting; I guess the poor bastards got what was coming to them after this event.

Trump excels at the art of talking smack. You notice he never actually responds to all the accusations reported about him, except to dismiss as "fake news" or just shift to attack something irrelevant. Meanwhile, everybody else in the news and even in the fake news business just can't bring themselves to stick to the subject and ignore his smoke and mirrors. Here's how he'll get by with shooting somebody on 5th Avenue: Bang! News reports: "Trump shoots guy on 5th Avenuel!" Trump: "I smoked a joint today with Kim Jong Un and the dead guy was an actor" News reports: Trump and Kim smoke peace pipe." Dead guy forgotten in less than a day.

Trump news – live: Impeachment push intensifies as president launches late-night twitter storm after disapproval rating soars
Donald Trump finds himself under siege once more as the Democratic case for his impeachment gathers momentum and his disapproval rating rises to 62 per cent in a new AP opinion poll....
The president was up late last night firing out partisan retweets as his Justice Department comes under fire for including a link to a white nationalist blog in its morning news briefing to immigration court employees.

Re: President* Trump
As I post this, trump's latest tweet shows him whining about how he can "hereby demand" US companies cease operations in China and he refers to the Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977. This is likely the rationale the US used in the late 70's to seize Iranian assets here; the same money that Obama gave back to them nearly fifty years later and was accused of "paying" Iran for releasing some folks from detention there even though he was just giving them back their money. Hilarious.

Re: President* Trump
Riiight, lots of “Radical Left Democrats” are New Jersey insurance executives that would stoop to staying at one of his resorts.Trump claims 'radical left' spread rumors of bedbugs at Florida club
President Trump blamed “Radical Left Democrats” for spreading reports that there were bedbugs at a golf resort he owns in Miami, the same one he pitched as the venue for next year’s G-7 meeting....
The Miami Herald reported in 2017 that a lawsuit between New Jersey insurance executive Eric Linder and the club had come to a tentative settlement. Linder had sued after waking up during a March 2016 stay at the resort with dozens of bites.

Just another whiny CiC - Crybaby in Chief - article. I probably wouldn't have shared except that I thought this might be useful in your debates elsewhere:
... Following the president’s comments, Senate Finance Committee ranking member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., issued a statement saying that the G-7 should not be held at a Trump property.
“Under no circumstances should the G-7 be held at Trump’s Doral resort, which would be one of the most egregious examples of corruption and self-dealing in a presidency replete with them,” said Wyden. “Trump is using the office to line his own pockets at the expense of the American people and our standing in the world. Requiring our allies to spend money at the president’s hotel to attend the G-7 would be an insult to them and a violation of our Constitution’s emoluments clause.”
... A June Washington Post analysis found that Trump’s own visits to his properties generated at least $1.6 million in business for him just in the first six months of 2017 — paid mostly by the government and the Trump campaign — despite concerns that “he was using the power of the presidency to direct taxpayer money into his own pockets.” A lobbyist funded by Saudi Arabia paid for 500 rooms at Trump’s Washington hotel following the 2016 election....

Yes. If he's losing money as president that's his problem. He knew what he was signing up for, and we're not responsible for his poor business decisions. It certainly doesn't justify his monetizing the presidency by charging us for Secret Service and staff rooms and food, nor his collecting bribes in the form of foreigners and Americans staying at his overpriced hotels.
What a piece of shit he is.
For the whining or for the lying? Most analysts don't believe that he had 3 - 5 billion dollars to lose in the first place. That said, if he did and if he's lost it - YIPPIE!

What I'd like to see is trump being slipped a good dose of LSD in his Happy Meal. That sure would be something. He could try and play golf on acid and then talk to Steve Mnuchin after that. That'll fix him.

Makes sense to me. Why should a 4 or 8 year presidency exempt criminal accountability forever?
The petition to Congress reads:
"No president is above the law – especially not Trump. Pass H.R. 2678 to pause any statute of limitation while a president is in office and ensure that all Americans – including the president – can be held accountable for their actions."
