Single hurricane thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Never would have thought you'd need any special plane or effort to find pollution in Houston. The "look out the window", "watch where you step" and "sniff" methods are lots cheaper.

Tropical Storm Dorian

Still early to say for the mainland, but the Ensemble model shows Cat 2 Dorian trouncing PR, smacking O Really's Naples, billy.pilgrim's Pensacola, and eventually curling east to my Hooterville, the perfect BRD storm.
San Juan Mayor responds to Trump’s false Puerto Rico claim: ‘Get out of the way’

San Juan Mayor, Carmen Yulín Cruz, did not mince words on CNN Tuesday night when responding to Donald Trump's latest comments on Puerto Rico. Tuesday morning, while Puerto Rico prepared for another potential hurricane, the president tweeted about the incoming storm, bizarrely asking, "Will it ever end?" and claiming Congress approved $92 billion for the U.S. territory last year.

This tweet left the Mayor asking host John Berman a question of her own, "Will his racism and his vindictive behavior toward the people of Puerto Rico ever end? As you have said, this is not how a president behaves. This is not how a human behaves in the face of adversity."
Donald J. Trump
‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump

Wow! Yet another big storm heading to Puerto Rico. Will it ever end? Congress approved 92 Billion Dollars for Puerto Rico last year, an all time record of its kind for “anywhere.”
... Tuesday's exchange is just the latest chapter in an ongoing feud between Trump and Cruz following the president's questionable response to 2017's devastating hurricanes Maria and Irma. "3,000 Puerto Ricans did not open their eyes this morning because this racist man did not have it within him to do his job," said Cruz.
Carmen Yulín Cruz
@CarmenYulinCruz

It is reprehensible that yet again @realDonaldTrump chooses to lie. Will it ever end.? Congress has approved $40 b and $14b have been disbursed. Would it be too much to ask for you to act Presidenatial and do your job without a lie or an insult?
... Cruz said, "Get out of the way President Trump, and let the people that can do the job get the job done."
I don't know who is lying about the money, but I can guess.

Now Cat 3 when it hits FL. May stay north of Naples according to the "Forecast" screen. The O Reallys have also spent time in Orlando.

Which would be $1.5B more than he's ever had. Maybe PR will send him some golf balls and paper towels.

Whoa Cat 4 at landfall now. Still aiming at you and at or near me and Whack9's former "lawn".

Remember the good old days when Dorian could have remained a TS?

Way early yet and the scale of the map makes it hard to tell, but it looks like a full day to get from the coast to Orlando. That's a lot of rain and wind for a long time.

Who are these Florida people standing on line to buy water and making lines as the gas pumps? Gotta be either "first year" transplants or idiots. Don't they know they're living in a June-November-especially-September hurricane path? Did they not read that part in their "Move to a Sunny Florida Paradise" brochure? We used to keep a supply of "hurricane food" on hand throughout the season, along with 10 or so gallon jugs of tap water that we rotated from time to time. Water some plants, refill the jug. When the storm was still a gleam in the weather chick's eye, we'd top up the cars, put the bug-out bags in one of them. If the storm started coming our way, we'd test-fire the generator, put up the storm covers, put away stuff from the deck/patio and settle in. If it looked like a bad hit (only a couple of time while we lived there), we'd bail out before the roads clogged up with last-minuters. Nothing to panic over if you've got reasonable preparation.

NOAA really should have Mar-a-Lago and Doral locators on its map. Anyone doing that will see web traffic, and con whining, skyrocket.

“cone of uncertainty" is particularly apt for anything associated with Dolt .45.

Will be a Cat 3 by 2000.
https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/ ... p=forecast
Landfall Tues morning, supposed to be a Cat 4, but plenty of time to become a Cat 5 still.
The "Ensemble" map shows that we'll likely be spared. That right hook is so severe that I'm wondering if one of those rare full circle hurricanes is possible, though the models don't show it yet.
The "Model" map looks like billy.pilgrim might be spared. The rest of FL, otoh . . .

Wind
Evacuate if you live on the coast
Everybody else - bring in the lawn furniture, park your junker under a precarious limb and invite people who live on the coast to come stay with you and enjoy the food and water you already have in stock

Oh, and tell them to bring charcoal or propane for the big neighborhood clean out the freezer parties in the days after.

Her/his message is unmistakable. ;)

Then straight up FL, still a Cat 1 a full day later at Gainesville! Could impact the GA & SC coasts.

Nah, "DT" monogrammed linen napkins.

Now back to Cat 4 at landfall, Cat 2 all the way up to Jacksonville. FL is fucked. Cat 1 in GA, even SC?

Now a Cat 4.
Cat 3 at landfall Tues night, shifted N of Mar-a-Lago, darn.
Still Cat 2 on the GA coast Wed night.
Looks like billy.pilgrim is out of the woods, as probably am I and Whack9's "lawn".

With Hurricane Dorian looming, Trump Administration transfers $155 million in disaster aid to ICE

Edit: Whoa, 1st landfall in SC now as a Cat 2 after raking the FL coast as a 4 then 3.
