Re: College football
Those Maryland Stadium fans sure looked like they were having a great time as UMCP went 2-0 with a 63-20 pasting of Syracuse, but maybe they were just covering for their sparseness and misery. (21)Syracuse won't be ranked, will Maryland?
0-1 Miami is favored by 5 vs 1-0 UNC @Chapel Hill at 2000. We'll see. Go UNC! Not on TV here, grrr.
Utah won by just 18.

One rookie to the pool picked Cincinnati > @(5)Ohio St. in an Offline game. OSU 42, CIN 0

Michigan won in 2OT, nice, but Army beat the 22.5 point spread by 19.5, darn. Luckily, only 6 in the pool went with Army. I'm 3-2, tied for 2nd early at 1 point out of the lead.

Michigan got lucky - real lucky.
We have a big one later. They lead the series 17 - 14 - 6
I'm betting it will be 17 - 15 - 6 after tonight.

Unknown illegalities aside, I'm glad my school doesn't have to depend on cartoon colored fields, thunder sticks, bogus national championships or cupcake schedules.
I hope that my school's athletic teams are not involved with performance drugs and illegal payments.

Re: College football
10 sec. left, 4th & goal, TAMU TD, Clemson under performs, TAMU beats the spread by 3.5.

NE leads 17-0 until 1:42 left in the 3rd, crap. CO ties it twice, 24-24 & 31-31 with 0:46 left, OT, CO wins 34-31, wow!
AL did lead by 55, 62-10 final.Vrede too wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 12:43 pmEmail from one of the pool admins:Really, Yahoo!? You’re making us bet on a 55-point spread for Alabama and NM State? Sheesh. I gotta factor just how pathetic the Aggies are against how big of a dick Nick Saben is? Great. No one ever went broke overestimating how big of a dick Nick Saban is, but Go Aggies!

I'm 7-2, tied for 1st with 1 other. We only have 2 games different out of the last 11 - I have UCF and TX - but we could crash and burn together.

Another one of (billy.pilgrim's) favorites, (18)UCF -10 @Florida Atlantic
Tulane +18 @(10)Auburn
@(9)Texas +5.5 (6)LSU, maybe the best and most meaningful game on paper. Vegas is now 6.5, ut-oh.
(23)Stanford +1 @USC, Vegas is now 3, ut-oh. Not changing, though.
@(14)Washington -14 California
Tulane +18 @(10)Auburn. 13 of them like Auburn. Tulane is my 2nd biggest oddball selection.
Tulane push is the best I could have hoped for, congrats billy.pilgrim.
Texas - LSU lived up to the hype. LSU prevailed . . . by 1.5!

Can't take 1st

USC thumped Stanford
. Oh no, Cal beat 14-point favorite UW by a point!
I end Sat. with a push and then 3 straight losses, finishing 9-6-1 in a penniless tie for 3rd for the 2nd week in a row. However, I am in a 4-way tie for the season lead. My brother and SiL have exclusive hold on the season basement.

(From article on teams off to poor starts...)
Miami fell to 0-2 Saturday night after losing 28-25 at North Carolina. Yeah, Florida — the team that beat Miami in Week 0 — is a borderline top-10 team and the Tar Heels are now 2-0 after beating South Carolina in Week 1. But losing to North Carolina when you have 14 days to prepare is almost inexcusable when you’re Miami.

Re: College football
#1 Clemson's defeat of #16 Texas A&M was a quality win, unless Texas A&M falls further out of the rankings. Otherwise, #25 Virginia is the only other ranked ACC team and it's not even on Clemson's schedule.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 9:15 amYou're missing my take on this.
Simply put - a team's schedule should reflect the goal of the program.
If they want to be considered in the rankings war, then they need to play at least 3 or 4 high ranked teams (6 or 7 would be better) - if they have enough in their conference, then that's all they need. If they have a nothing confrence, then they need to change to a better confrence or schedule top non-conference games.
Re bammer and NM. Bama has an easy schedule by SEC standards, but it's still tougher than anything ucf has ever faced.
Besides, it's a good payday for NM and a bunch of kids get to play against Alabama. They will always remember.
Otoh, the Pussies did schedule Conference USA Charlotte and FCS Wofford. Even if undefeated, come Dec. should we make the case that Clemson no more deserves the playoffs than UCF does?
