The Global Warming thread.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

What do you think of Greta Thunberg, schoolgirl climate change warrior?

Pathetic  ...
Greta Thunberg is "Pathetic  " ?
Skiping school in the name of climate change is.
What excuse did you use for "skiping" spelling class?
And what cause would you find worthy of skipping class?
2500 actions, millions of kids and supporters - this historic day is made even more special knowing that elephanter is throwing a fit.
Cool; saw the coverage on CBS tonight. And that elephant man might be the same guy as the cat fan; he's got a tenuous grip on his native language, too. Plus he hibernates often.

Could be, but elephanter only posted 4 times - s/he skiped out of here :D - and 1 FAT CAN was posting both before and after elephanter.

Was pleasant here for a couple of days, now back to the 80s or higher we've been at since early Spring. :sunny: :gthumb:
'Our house is on fire.' Global Climate Strike draws out hundreds of thousands of protesters in New York, DC

A boisterous crowd of at least 200,000 people turned out to chant and march in Manhattan on Friday ...

"Climate change is worse than homework," read one homemade sign ...

... more than 300,000 demonstrators turned out on Australian streets ...

Organizers said protesters would be turning out in 156 countries from such disparate locations as Nepal, Senegal, Quebec, Rome, Kyrgyzstan, Sweden, Bolivia and Peru ...

... In the middle of the school day, 70 high schoolers in Greenville, South Carolina carried hand-painted signs as they walked down Main Street to City Hall.

"People still think that it’s a generation or two down the road, but no, this is just happening now," said Wylder Voegele, a 17-year-old student. "It’s scary." ...

Sorry, missed seeing your post until now.

1. There is no “Glacier National Bay”. Right off the bat we know that you and the LOL LOL LOL AGW denier LOL LOL LOL site you get cherry picked “facts” from are clueless, not even up to the level of a middle school geography student.
Oh no...I put two words in the wrong order. Oh the horror. Oh woe is me. Oh my oh my oh my. Oh what ever shall I do. Seriously, if that's the best you've got, you are in trouble.
In Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve one glacier out of its 7 major ones, the Grand Pacific Glacier, retreated beginning in the 18th Century. It’s only been in the last few decades that all of the Park’s glaciers have been thinning and retreating. You lied.
I didn't lie. In the 1700's, they were one massive glacier. So, yes, your first sentence was the best you have. You are in trouble.

Glaciology is complex, with many factors affecting each one. All you do is confirm your utter science ignorance by implying that a single contrary glacier is meaningful, especially when we know that glaciers globally are more recently and consistently retreating.
“While there are isolated cases of growing glaciers, the overwhelming trend in glaciers worldwide is retreat. In fact, the global melt rate has been accelerating since the mid-1970s.”
https://skepticalscience.com/himalayan- ... ediate.htm
So, I ask why glaciers started retreating before man began producing CO2 and you respond with why some glaciers are growing now and why that is meaningless? With the exception of the little ice age, glaciers have been retreating for thousands of years. With that, the question becomes why do we think that our presence caused the retreat when the retreat began thousands of years before we produced one pound of CO2 from a machine.
2. “The consequences of climate change become increasingly bad after each additional degree of warming, with the consequences of 2°C being quite damaging and the consequences of 4°C being potentially catastrophic.”
https://skepticalscience.com/global-war ... vanced.htm
It’s also a matter of the unprecedented rapidity of warming. Neither humans nor plants and animals have time to adapt.
Two degrees warmer than now is the mean temperature for Earth. The means Earth has spent more time at 17C than it has at the current 15C. In fact, the Earth has never seen prolonged periods at 15C. The current temperature has always been a transitory temperature.

As for the warming trends, the current trends are slower than natural warming events of the past. And they should be. Warming trends have been taking longer and longer as the planet has grown. That, of course, makes sense. Smaller planets should change temperature faster than larger planets. But, you have dishonest scientists that will tell you that over the last century we have warmed faster than ever. That is not true. The climate changes like the stock market. As it goes up it ebbs and flows. The normalized data will show growth, but at certain points along the graph, you can find extreme growth and recession. Dishonest scientists like to use the early 1900's as their comparison point to today. That was a valley. We are nearing a peak. If you compare the valley to the current peak it looks like extremely rapid warming. However, if you normalize the data you will find that the warming trend of the last hundred, 1000 and 10,000 years has been well below previous ice house to warm house transitions.

We are not the cretins you are used to discussing things with. If you wish to avoid shaming yourself, you’re really going to have to up your game, including: basic googling, avoiding biased, non-expert websites, and doing some actual research. We may be lefties, but each one of us prizes facts and logic above all. You should give it a try sometime.
Do you think so? Do you really? You spent the entire post arguing with ghosts and finished by attempting to insult me. If you are going to claim some level of superiority at least do so from after making a credible post. Don't do it when you posted replies to straw men and baseless insults.

No, they weren't. That's not how glaciers work and your map doesn't back you up in any way.

You keep telling yourself that, it's adorable!

Ummm, because all of the glaciologists and climate scientists agree about the recent changes and their cause. Too frightened to read the link or too slow to understand it?

Trump Posts Sarcastic Response To Greta Thunberg's Tearful Climate Change Speech

... Hours after the 16-year-old delivered her impassioned address, Trump shared a tweet from Wired that quoted the Swedish teen: “People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth.”

The president, a climate change denier who has gutted environmental regulations to favor coal and oil companies, added his own sarcastic commentary on Thunberg: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!” ...

2 questions.

1. Why did the glaciers in Glacier National Bay begin to shrink in the 1750's?
2. Why do you think warmer temperatures are bad?
