Why Do You Support Obama? A Sincere Question.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The main reason is that (according to most everyone including Republicans) the Republican Party has taken a very hard right trajectory in the past decade or so, and now is largely focused on issues at odds to the majority of citizens. One can put up with a lot to keep these people out of power.

But I voted for Hillary in the 2008 primary, and if she had run against Obama in the primary this year, I would have voted for her again. Problem is, each voter only gets one alternative that has a chance of winning - the D or the R. Independents, third parties, rogues, wannabes, none have a chance of winning.

I guess bottom line is better of two evils.

Well, FDR was reelected with a worse economic landscape than Obama, but those were
rather special circumstances. Obama had a higher rating early in his term, but it's been
in that mid-high forties range for a long time.

To me Romney looks too much like a Bush III. We don't need to go back to the same thing
that got us into trouble in the first place. Just read a short article yesterday about a non-
partisan study saying that lowering the tax rates of the well off have a very very limited
impact on productivity or job growth. It makes a good line for the Republicans on the need
to keep those taxes low, but there's not much to actually back up that theory.

Yes, there is the fact that there are only two realistic choices to win in this election, and
in most presidential election, so your choices are limited and you go with the guy who is
closest to your beliefs, though he will be way short of perfect.

I agree with the above also; lack of a better choice.

Back in the day, one criticism of the major parties was that they were too similar. There were always differences, but both parties were run by their middles. If that were still the case, Obama would be toast. But the Republicans are controlled by their fringes, and there are numerous examples of what those people do when in office, and it's not pretty.

The strange thing is that ideologies are what really distinguish the parties. Their
ethics, funding, bsing, are really about the same, unfortunately. For every Democrat
who gets caught doing something bad, there is a Republican who gets caught doing
something, maybe the same thing, bad. I think anybody who's the least knowledgeable
about U.S. politics knows this, so it really comes down to their political beliefs, though
in a roundabout way.

Sincere answers to a sincere question. Thanks all, even if on some points we do not agree. Probably one of the most civil exchanges
I've seen on a forum. Thank you.

I am not voting for Romney for the many of the same reasons that you have. However, the same reasoning that makes Romney repugnant to me also reject Obama.

I understand that the idea that any vote outside of the D or the R is wasted, but I believe one day a third party will usurp the position of one
of the major parties of today. I can't think of a better time to start the selection process.

I personally support the Constitution Party and I will vote for Virgil Goode in November.

One point of contention...I do not think that the GOP has made any real turn to the right in recent years as was suggested. Look at the last two
presidential candidates that the GOP has fielded. Other than a few Tea Party inspired victories, and a handful of diehards, little is changed in the
Republican Party. I say they are neither principled or conservative enough, which is why I am not a member of that party.

Romney is stoopid and Ryan scares the hell out of me. I will have to vote for Obama for these reasons.

I don't support Obama. I have no support for Romney either. Having to choose between the lesser of the two evils,
I would, if voting today, vote for Obama. Romney hasn't shown me anything that convinces me he would be the leader this
country needs; however with his financial smarts, I believe he would be what the US needs to pull us out of the financial
mess we're in. Throwing money at the problem, in Obama's case has not been the answer. Romney would be better in the
office of Secretary of the Treasury.

Yep, that's right. History started on January 20, 2009, and nothing that happened before that
date had any effect on events after that date. I don't know what the latest polls show, but for
a long time most people were blaming Dumbya for the bad economy, and it wasn't just liberals
either. Little Hill is just waiting for 2016, no matter what happens in 2012.

She's voting for Big O and all she got was a cell. Hell, I got a BMW, a gas station, and, just
recently, a time share in Tahiti, and I'm not even voting. USA USA USA.

Obama appreciates your vote.
He made that one particularly easy. It's not a fair fight. 8-)
