Banni, is there some reason the embedded link thing is not working for me?

Looks like regular links aren't either.

Funny this morning many of the libs on the talk show circuit seemed to have the tingly leg thing going on after hearing Chavez was re-elected.

I'm sure there's one shithead poster on BRN who is having a meltdown, or disputing
the election numbers, or both.
Would anybody trust Thorny on his interpretation of what liberal talk show hosts are saying?
Not me, baby.

I'm going to miss that idiot. It's a badge of honor to have been threatened with court action. Guess I'll have to be content with the memories; he wouldn't dare show his face over here, where he doesn't have a nanny to protect him.Vrede wrote:Yep, I just copied and pasted what was there, didn't notice the lack of "http://". Thanks.
Bet Foolgle is tweaking over the results.

Don't despair. On the first Friday of every month, Foolgle will be there in black and white with
his entire cast of the usual wingnut suspects: tort lawyers, unions thugs, Chavez, the UAW,
Democrats, Barney Frank, and last but not least, Saul Alinsky. Oh my.
I think his column should be retitled The Dumbest Ph.D. in America, but I won't hold my breath.

Does Vrede feel this is good that Chavez was re-elected? After all, he is just an avowed communist.Vrede wrote:Venezuela's Capriles accepts defeat, congratulates Chavez on re-election

I have always appreciated Vrede's honesty. Nice to reconnect comrade.Vrede wrote:He's actually an avowed socialist or, as he calls it, a Bolivarian. I have mixed feelings about Chavez. I'm not too fond of the constitutional amendment allowing his perpetual elections and the limits on the press. OTOH, I recognize that his popularity is due in large part to the failed US -supported coup, and I support the Venezuelan people's right to choose in a universally acknowledged free and fair election (with 81% turnout!) in the face of overt (and likely covert) US support for his oligarchical opponent.
Similarly, if Obama wins I'll feel good more because he's not Mitten than because I'm a huge Obama fan.
So, I like this election result mostly because it pisses off cons like you.

The nutters still haven't figured out the difference between socialism and communism? Not surprised.

To a certain extent; I think social security is a good thing, roads, healthcare, schooling, etc.Supsalemgr wrote:Does Banni support socialism?
Firefighting should definitely be for profit though.

Re: Viva socialismo!
I think when most think of socialism they are thinking of the giving money directly to someone else for say not working. If you work and get paid it's called a job no matter where the money comes from. When you work and they take taxes to give money to those who don't work or you just subsidized their income because it's low. I hear some low income people with two or three kids get 5 or 6 thousand back in taxes, how and why?
Social security is an insurance policy you pay for just happens to be run by the government.

No, most people don't think that. It's not even close to the truth, and as misinformed as many Americans are, they don't go that far off the rails.Colonel Taylor wrote:I think when most think of socialism they are thinking of the giving money directly to someone else for say not working.
Your problem is that you imagine most people think like you. We'd be a fourth world country if that were true.

Yep, ol' Thorny is not exactly a master of English prose or much for rational thought. I doubt
things will be any different on this site. Only the names have been changed to protect the
ignorant.
I like to stick with that definition of socialism--state ownership of the means of production. It
makes things very clear cut. People get money back because that's the way the current tax code
works. Blame Congress.

I won't speak for Banni, but you imply that supportof "socialism" is an all or nothing proposition. It's not. There are some functions that can betterbe handled on a national basis, such as interstate highways, for example. For some of us, the list of those thingsmay be longer than for others, and may include such things as healthcare. If you want to call it "socialism" fine. I value substance and practicality over theoretical ideology.Supsalemgr wrote:Does Banni support socialism?
