The car thread ...

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Fun reading for you Camaro guys - or shopping if you've got some extra coin lying around...

Start here for the shopping part...
https://www.motorious.com/vehicles/1719 ... opo-camaro

Then read here about COPO cars. Interesting story...
https://itstillruns.com/copo-camaro-8726352.html
Yep, those were the days, my friend; thought they'd never end. Well, you know the rest. Never saw, much less rode in a COPO, but knew of them at the time. I think the most outrageous car I ever actually rode in (and took a trip to Myrtle Beach in) was a 71 Barracuda with the 440ci engine and the six pack carburetor option. It would surely put your head back in the seat from a standing start or even at full throttle at speeds under about 60mph. Looking back on the things me and my crowd did, it's miraculous that we survived those times.

Another reason to love Teslas:

Turns out Tesla police cars run out of 'gas' mid-chase, too
Huh, I was gonna post that same story; guess we're back in synch again.

Looks the same as a bunch of other small sporty SUV type cars. William Morris might not be turning in the grave, but I can't see him being impressed.

I always wondered how the Tucker guy would have done if he'd had the funding to continue his business. I remember as a kid hearing about him and seeing photos of his only car; it had three headlights, and I think he was the first guy to have seat belts. The big boys sort of put him out of business.

I have always believed that in a more open market that a country of our size should have at least 50+ competing brands of cars.
Maybe shifting away from gas will create more opportunities.

I got to ride in one of these with a guy that bought one many years ago. It was a nice machine when it worked right. He did not keep it long.

So, you used to be vaguely nervous about having your office on the ground floor near a high speed road, but you felt a lot better once they moved you to the 2nd floor. Then:

That window just to the right of the car appears to be undamaged. It would make a good ad for the window company.

My phone updated 3 nights ago and my car updated last night. Cool car update added several new features and increased HP by 5%. I can now go 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds.

... I wish Musk hadn't been such an asshole about the Thailand cave rescue. It makes it harder to appreciate Tesla, SpaceX, etc.
Elon Musk, Accused of Defaming Cave Explorer, Must Stand Trial, Judge Says

A federal judge delivered a pair of legal setbacks to tech billionaire Elon Musk this week, rejecting Musk’s attempt to throw out a defamation lawsuit brought against him by a British cave explorer whom Musk had accused on Twitter of being a “pedo guy.”

The judge, Stephen Wilson in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, also ruled that the explorer, Vernon Unsworth, was not a public figure — meaning the bar will be lower for him to prove defamation.

Wilson on Monday ordered that a jury trial begin Dec. 3. He denied Musk’s argument that the case should be tossed because his statement, a shortened version of the word pedophile, was a throwaway insult not to be construed as fact....
Prediction: No way Musk sits through a trial. HUGE settlement along with an NDA coming.

This is pretty cool; Musk reveals the Tesla Cybertruck. It looks like something from a Mad Max movie.

Tell General Motors, Toyota, and Fiat Chrysler to stop attacking clean car standards!

And/or:
To: GM, Toyota, Fiat Chrysler, Nissan, Subaru, Hyundai and Kia

I strongly disapprove of your company’s support of the Trump administration's illegal and dangerous attack on state authority, clean air, consumer savings, and climate progress. Your company picked the wrong side--lining up against what’s best for my family’s health, our planet, and my wallet.

Now is the time for your company to reverse course and reject President Trump's misguided attempt to roll back the clean car standards and attack state authority. We call on your company to immediately withdraw from the litigation against state clean car standards and invest in innovation instead of litigation. We need cleaner cars--not Trump’s indefensible and dangerous rollback.
