The Report (also known as The Torture Report) is a 2019 American docudrama film written and directed by Scott Z. Burns and starring Adam Driver, Annette Bening, Ted Levine, Michael C. Hall, Tim Blake Nelson, Corey Stoll, Maura Tierney and Jon Hamm.

The plot follows staffer Daniel J. Jones and the Senate Intelligence Committee as they investigate the CIA's use of torture following the September 11 attacks. It covers more than a decade's worth of real-life political intrigue, exploring and compacting Jones's 6,700-page report. Burns had previously written the fact-based films The Informant! and Contagion....

On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 87% based on 60 reviews, with an average rating of 7.84/10. The website's critical consensus reads, "The Report draws on a dark chapter in American history to offer a sober, gripping account of one public servant's crusade for accountability."On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 79 out of 100, based on 10 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".

In August 2019, Human Rights First announced that it will award the 2019 Sidney Lumet Award for Integrity in Entertainment to The Report at the organization's annual award dinner on October 28 in New York City.

Planet of the Apes is one of our most enduring film franchises. I still remember being enthralled with the 1968 original as a tween. There were 4 sequels:
Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)
Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)

None of them matched the original and I don't think that I ever saw them all after the first couple of flops.

Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes remake was released in 2001. I'm not sure if I ever saw it. It's kind of a dud on Rotten Tomatoes.

Then, along came the prequel series:
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)

They're a surprisingly strong set - box office triumphs, award winning and earning universally high critic and audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. I like the first two a lot and just watched War for the Planet of the Apes, which is now my favorite of the three. Well made, and a lot of depth for a monkey movie.

In the Valley of Elah

In the Valley of Elah is a 2007 crime drama mystery film written and directed by Paul Haggis, starring Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize Theron, and Susan Sarandon. The film's title refers to the Biblical valley where the battle between David and Goliath took place.

Paul Haggis's In The Valley of Elah is based on actual events, although the characters' names and locations have been changed. The screenplay was inspired by journalist Mark Boal's "Death and Dishonor", an article about the murder case published in Playboy magazine in 2004.

It portrays a military father's search for his son and, after his body is found, subsequent hunt for his son's killers. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

That is pretty great. Honors the 1995 premise, but a fresh enough take to avoid being a rehash. Good story, acting and effects . . . and Jack Black is hilarious in his role.

Anyone seen Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)? Seems to have had a decent reception.
