The Global Warming thread.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

“Australia is on fire,” tweeted teenage climate evangelist Greta Thunberg, decrying the lack of “political action [to combat] the climate crisis.”

Greta Thunberg - "Because we still fail to make the connection between the climate crisis and increased extreme weather events and nature disasters like the #AustraliaFires."

According to leftists news headquarters CNN - "Police have charged at least 24 people for intentionally starting bushfires in the state of New South Wales, according to a statement the New South Wales Police released Monday." In November, the NSW Rural Fire Service arrested a 19-year-old volunteer member on suspicion of arson, charging him with seven counts of deliberately setting fires over a six-week period.

Earth's temperature likely marks hottest decade on record: report
We broke down the last decade of climate change in 7 charts

As this hottest-on-record, godforsaken decade draws to a close, it’s clear that global warming is no longer a problem for future generations but one that’s already displacing communities, costing billions, and driving mass extinctions. And it’s worth asking: Where did the past 10 years get us? ...

Opps, the Australia bush fires link above went sour. Here's a good one:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/finance/marke ... ar-BBYKpZj

15 years ago Australia was considered one of the worst nations for AGW policy. I don't know if that changed and by how much.
Thousands of Australians are calling for their prime minster's resignation. He's vowed to keep exporting coal, despite the link between fires and climate change.

Though they call it things like 'divine retribution', the fundies believe in karma. Sometimes, I wonder.

Many supposed fiscal cons and anti-socialists LOVE throwing OUR money at subsidizing THEIR dogma:
Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters: Overview

... The U.S. has sustained 258 weather and climate disasters since 1980 where overall damages/costs reached or exceeded $1 billion (including CPI adjustment to 2019). The total cost of these 258 events exceeds $1.75 trillion.

2019 in Context…

In 2019, there were 14 weather and climate disaster events with losses exceeding $1 billion each across the United States. These events included 3 flooding events, 8 severe storm events, 2 tropical cyclone events, and 1 wildfire event. Overall, these events resulted in the deaths of 44 people and had significant economic effects on the areas impacted. The 1980–2019 annual average is 6.5 events (CPI-adjusted); the annual average for the most recent 5 years (2015–2019) is 13.8 events (CPI-adjusted).

Image

2019 is the fifth consecutive year (2015-2019) in which 10 or more billion-dollar weather and climate disaster events have impacted the United States. Over the last 40 years (1980-2019), the years with 10 or more separate billion-dollar disaster events include 1998, 2008, 2011-2012, and 2015-2019....

Yeah, I know - one day/week of anecdotal circumstances doesn't have significance in the big picture, but still ...
The last year I lived in Pennsylvania, it barely got above freezing for the whole month of January. Unusually cold, but not totally unheard of. Today, people were enjoying 60-degree weather wearing shorts and playing in parks.
Mid-upper 60s this week in Hooterville, thunderstorms yesterday, some freezing temps in early Dec, balmy since. Not a lick of snow this year. We were never polar, but I remember when there would be some snow on the ground all winter.
Our LOW will be 62 tonight, record or near record. Whack9's day is in the 70s.

And windy.
I love SoCal, but for weather, it's no South Florida.
Weather chicks give the forecast for the "microclimates" with separate comments about the coast, inland, mountains, and desert. But really, it's even more different than that. Sometimes you can look at the weather on Weatherbug or on the weather app on the laptop and get different readings depending on what weather station they're using. You get fog at the coast sometimes that just ends around a certain street - like there's some mystic Stephen King type barrier.

In SF it's common to have a 20+ degree swing depending on which side of the fog line you're on. I lived at the east end of GG Park, frequently near the border. A short stroll could involve donning and doffing layers.

I'll take credit for it if Mark doesn't want it. Lady O and I froze our asses off there in July a few years ago. In the morning, I was wondering why the street vendors had jackets and sweatshirts in the middle of summer. By evening, I was buying some.
