The carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-65) was deactivated on Saturday. She'll be decommissioned after her reactors are defueled. She's the second-oldest commissioned vessel in the Navy after the wooden-hulled USS Constitution.
On Saturday they also announced a new Enterprise, CVN-80, a Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier. Construction will start around 2018 and she'll be in operation by 2025-2027.

Nah. That would be the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) itself, now under construction. She'll be launched next year, and commissioned in 2015. In view of Ford's problems with stairs, I hope the launch goes without incident.Vrede wrote:Are golf clubs and balls prohibited?rstrong wrote:...Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier...
Perhaps one of the future stealth ships named will be named after Bush II. If the stealth measures work, years later no-one will never know whether the ship was ever present or in service.

Go back and re-check your sources on that; they're as reliable as mine here: Linkrstrong wrote:Perhaps one of the future stealth ships named will be named after Bush II. If the stealth measures work, years later no-one will never know whether the ship was ever present or in service.
I believe you'll find that the first stealth vessel will be named the 'Barack Obama'; present in appearance only.

This movie's plot: A bad guy wants revenge.
The previous movie's plot: A bad guy wants revenge.
The plot of the movie before that, Star Trek: Nemesis: A bad guy wants revenge.
The plot of my favorite Trek movie, The Wrath of Khan: A bad guy wants revenge.
I'm still looking forward to it.

Re: Star Trek: ... it now has a name!
I like the fun they're having messing with the die-hard fans over naming.
The first official still from the movie has a caption that identifies Benedict Cumberbatch's mystery villain as John Harrison. Some fans went "AHA!" and pointed to redshirt named John Harrison in the original episode "Space Seed", the one with Khan.
However.... the name "John Harrison" is actually part of Star Trek backstage lore, the name used for a number of random, unnamed onscreen characters (including redshirts) in several episodes. The captain of the Enterprise-B in Star Trek: Generations was John Harriman.
