Religion in America

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

He had his opportunity in court, he failed.
Maybe he should have been ignored, disparaged. Atheists don't believe in God, so they say.
Actually they say there is no evidence for any gods.
Presumably 1 fat can disbelieves in the divinity of Zeus.

Zeus has exactly equivalent legitimacy with God.

Why the discrimination? Racism against Greeks?
From my standpoint, I give Zeus equal time with god; I just have never exclaimed in a fit of wonder or anger "Zeusdamn" and always use "Goddamn" instead. This just seems to have more "ooomph" behind it. I have also rejected "Allahdamn" and "Buddhadamn" as unsatisfactory. At one time I actually considered "Shivadamn" but after agonizing deliberation, I came to the conclusion that a three syllable curse just don't make the nut, which left me with "Zeusdamn" or "Goddamn" and that pretty much covers it.

You could be all-inclusive and still keep it at two syllables with "godsdamn!"

Facing another day of unrelenting rain (where it "never rains in Southern California") and at least partially grounded by social distancing makes for peculiar thoughts. And it occurred to me that the term "god damn" is rarely pronounced right and is also the same as a prayer. Usually pronounced with equal emphasis on first and last sylables, or as one word "goddammit", it is actually an instruction or at least a request for some damning to occur. So it should be "God! Damn these Repugs." Really no different from asking/instructing a god to "bless" something. Both are showing immense hubris as a tiny creature that's been around less than a blink of an eye infinity, on a chunk of rock over which s/he has no more control than a wild animal marking "his" territory. Ask personal favors of the entity that exists in infinity and created the universe? "Oh God, if you don't have anything else on your schedule today, could you help my kid win his baseball game?" Current day Christians (and others) have a lot more in common with the believers in the Roman and Greek gods than they think.

Who said anything about legally required?
Atheists haven't succeeded legally in having the phrase under God removed though.
If kids are not required to say the Pledge of Allegiance, why have atheists attempted to have the phrase under God removed from it?
Read that several states have God written in their constitutions. Shouldn't be an issue for atheists though, maybe.
North Carolina has Almighty God written in their constitution.
Maryland has grateful to Almighty God written in their constitution.

I like the yin/yang of "Zendamn", and the practicality of "DamnCAT".

Yes, exactly. It is a fact that most profane exclamatory statements are ones of an even number of syllables. This is easily proven; the terms asshole, shithead, douchebag, motherfucker, son of a bitch, dumbass, bastard, dipshit, fuckhead, pissface, and most others you can find are all of the two or four syllable variety. There are exceptions, of course, to all general rules. The term cocksucker is a three syllable descriptor and there may be others. Choose wisely.

I think that all fifty states mention "god" or "the divine" in their Constitutions. This seems to deny your assertion that god is being thrown out with the bath water and may possibly explain why you've been unable to give examples of how god is being fired. The fact remains that god is NOT mentioned in the US Constitution, which means that since he was never there he cannot be somehow thrown out. The politicians who wrote those state Constitutions pay lip service to religion in order to advance their own positions and cultivate support from gullible religious people. Once they get into office they act in ways that are a polar opposite of the religious tenets they say they adhere to. Didn't you know that?

1 FAT CAN's profound revelation is that we were more supernaturalist than we are now. Intellectual complexity is not her/his forte, and the career socialist worker's faith is so shaky and god so weak that s/he still insists that government has to enforce the supernaturalism.

Mr. Cat, this may sound strange, but sometimes a woman (or man, whatever floats your boat) might even moan "Oh God!" when doing the deed.

I'd assume that anyone with an ounce of sense woild immediately recognise the Book of Mormon as absurd, but being Mormon in certain places is likely a necessity for social and economic reasons. Is there genuine devotion or just conformity?

I consider Mormons more like a cult very similar to the trump cult. They are an insular community and tend to associate mostly with those of their own kind. I assume this is a vestige of their ostracism by other whites in the early 19th century when their practice of polygamy was common. All the other religious hypocrites scorned the Mormons and would kick their ass out of town so that they eventually had their asses kicked all the way to Utah. At that point the other religious hypocrites tired of kicking the Mormons' ass or else at that point they had no more ass to kick. But they've been there in Utah ever since covering and nursing their ass in a collective sort of way.

You may want to include joining the air force as one of their activities.
There are huge mormon churches around every air force base.

No conspiracy intended - just an observation. Could be that Utah is conducive to wanting to fly, or they are trying to get closer to the god guy.

They're an odd bunch:

Militarist, as billy.pilgrim notes;
A real but remote history of persecution by other xtians as neoplacebo says, deserved?
Commendable for their self-sufficiency, healthful lifestyle and communitarianism;
At times, they have been as politically and socially activist con as our Southern fundies. However, they have a very hierarchical structure with a president–prophet dictating revelations for the whole church. This has meant a liberalizing phase the past few years, so much so that they often pass as decent human beings;
MItt Romney, the former candidate for POTUS, represents uber-Mormon Utah in the US Senate and is probably our most anti-45SHOLE Senator, and Utah Repugs mostly support him for it.
