its the year without rankings.

Basketball requires a playoff for its final rankings.

Too bad they didn't suspend the games for 6 weeks and reevaluate.

Or, you could disqualify Kansas and Duke since they pulled their teams out before the official cancellation, disqualify Dayton because Ohio, disqualify the Zags because somewhere they had to have a pervert priest or so running around,

FSU because of the fuckin' chant, Baylor because Baptists,

and voila! Aztecs win!

The most out of shape MM ever? :D
That's approaching the end of the school year, and would be pushing close to the NBA draft by the Finals. Besides, things will almost certainly be worse in 6 weeks. I'd guess 3 months before we MIGHT approach normalcy, IF virulence diminishes in the Spring as with the flu.

I always assumed the only purpose of that chant was to annoy the opponents, at which it seems to have been spectacularly successful.

Likely it will be worse by then, but Disney has only postponed. Why not leave it open if things change.

And my biggest reason for not going with the current has more to do with what I witnessed the Kansas player do - the one who was only suspended for two games. I've never seen anything like that in all of college or professional sports, not even boxing.
Other reasons follow, but not sure I care too much about the also ranked one way or the other - 17.25 is a lot better than an NET 27.

I hate it for the kids who don't get to play.

That's the saddest part. For some a first time, for others a last time, but also for some their only time and now it's gone.

Ignorant guess: Because they looked at the calendar and other things intrude like the end of the school year and the NBA draft, whereas Disney is year-round fun and magic. :gayhappy:

It was just a goof to figure an average at all - RPI = NET = AP = Coaches?! - and then a goof to tease you about sour grapes.

Beats getting sick or dying, I guess. I am open to the possibility that all of these closings are an overreaction, but it's a done deal now.

Probably. But maybe it's like Y2K where the overreaction contributed to nothing happened. I'm pretty sure a given person could attend a basketball game or particularly a golf tournament and avoid being coughed on, handled by somebody else or touching things without sanitizing. But would everyone? I don't think so.

Florida, its now tradition to claim things unearned.
I assume that a parade and a ring are in order.

After a quick look

Indiana has a real claim for #1 after blowing out the semi-holes and Duke and Clemson beat them late in the season.

Not to detract from the players an iota and this really is a rotten shame for them, but if that's what Coach K believes why isn't he a volunteer?
Coach K, John Calipari Top The List Of Highest Paid College Basketball Coaches
A list of the highest paid college basketball coaches.

Mar 1, 2018

Duke head coach Mike Krzyewski makes $8.89 million a year and tops the annual list of college basketball coaches' salaries, which was released by USA Today.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari was No. 2 on the list with his $7.45 million after a $1 million increase in salary.

The list shows that at least 14 head coaches have made at least $3 million this season. Four of the top 10 coaches are from the Big Ten with Chris Holtmann of Ohio State topping that conference with a $7.15 million salary.

The top 25 list of coaches and their respective salaries can be found below:

Highest Paid College Basketball Coaches

1. Mike Krzyewski (Duke), $8.98 million
2. John Calipari (Kentucky), $7.45 million

15. Avery Johnson (Alabama), $2.89 million

17. Frank Martin (South Carolina), $2.85 million

20. Mark Turgeon (Maryland), $2.70 million
This compares with the highest-paid coaches at public colleges in the 2018-19 season:

Who’s highest‐paid in your state?

State-by-state breakdown

Who's the most powerful person in your state? Well, based on public employee salaries, it's likely a college coach (sorry, governors). A whopping 28 college football coaches are the best-paid employees in their states, along with 12 college hoops coaches who top the state payrolls. Check out the map below to find your state's top-earning public official, plus the governor's salary.

(interactive map)

North Carolina
Roy Williams, UNC men's basketball coach $3.3M
Roy Cooper, governor $144.4K
Median household income in dollars $52,752
Number of median income people needed to match Williams' salary 63

Money men

Notice any familiar names on this list of the 40 highest-paid coaches at public colleges? You should -- Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney and Jim Harbaugh have been on it for years. But some others (hello, Dan Hurley) crack the list for the first time.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson $9.3M
John Calipari, Kentucky $9.3M (hoops)
Nick Saban, Alabama $8.9M
Jim Harbaugh, Michigan $7.5M
Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M $7.5M
Kirby Smart, Georgia $6.9M
Jeff Brohm, Purdue $6.6M (unranked)
Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma $6.4M
Dan Mullen, Florida $6.1M
James Franklin, Penn State $5.7M

(more at link)
UNC is not just unranked, it did not receive a single AP vote.

Coaches are not tops in the Northeast, DE, ND, MT, AK & HI.

“To that end, I would ask that you remain open-minded on holding at least some version of March Madness if and when the public health risk subsides. Not just because of my personal interest in the success of my beloved Seminoles, but because of how popular the tournament is by millions of Americans,” he continued. “We need something to cheer for, quite frankly, in these uncertain times"

That would be really shitty. If you look at the history of March Madness, one of the things that makes it as interesting/exciting as it is is that most every year there are surprises, upsets, and unexpected flops. Just because a team is mythically/mystically awarded a "number 1 see" doesn't mean it won't get beat and in fact it's a fairly rare event for all the "#1's" to meet in the finals - actually all four have been in the final four only once. Most of the time there is at least one Cinderella that goes way deeper than expected. And of course, all the NC State people love to remind us all about 1983 when the #6 seed 'Pack won it all.

My vote (not that I get one) is run the whole tournament or not at all. Turn it into a fantasy tournament with computer simulations for each game.

I vote for cockroaches or hamsters wearing tiny team uniforms, “hoops” down on he floor. No ball, a team scores each time a member crawls through the correct hoop. Stronger teams get an extra 1-3 players.
