The Callous World We Live In Today......

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I don't know if this is just a clash-ea or not anymore but it's become the world we live in. Sad isn't it?

What kind of pathetic excuse for a human would strike another with an automobile and drive off leaving
that person to possibly die in the roadway?

Hit & runs are nothing new. Reporting has gotten better. Violent crime has been dropping for a couple decades, but that doesn't sell newspapers.

So, with a ho-hum and a yawn, we move on; nothing new. Yep, that's the ticket.

We continue better policing, better schooling, and whatever else we've done to drop crime.

But if you insist on hiding under your bed in fear that things are getting worse, go right ahead. Just don't expect everyone else to join you.

That's what you would do?

I choose option 1: We continue better policing, better schooling, and whatever else we've done to drop crime. And be honest about crime rates, since they're a good indicator of whether our methods are successful.

Obviously you disagree.

There will be hit and runs and rumors of hit and runs.

I think we could all agree that it takes a total scum bag to hit a pedestrian and drive off. Why couldn't the thread title be "Scum Bag Hits Child - Keeps Going"? Why can't we focus on what one guy did and offer to tar and feather him if he's caught?

But to say that a hit and run incident - or 30 hit and run incidents - mean the world is more callous today than in the past really shows a lack of understanding of what most of the world has been for most of history, or for that matter what else still goes on in the world.

Agreed that reporting has gotten better. If I read the intent in MrB's post, I would take it to mean that people today are more calloused than ever before, given the fact that hit and run drivers today think nothing of driving off and leaving their victim lying in the road.

I personally could not live with myself knowing I had done that to another human being, much less a child, as in this case.
