I got this figured out now

Listen up everybody, here comes some wisdom to help guide you through life. Get your note pads ready:

1) Buy cheap hub caps from Amazon or a flea market.
2) Hub cap flies away? Scour the lands high and low.. Was the hub cap retrieved? If not, proceed to step 3.
3) Buy another set of cheap hub caps from Amazon or a flea market. Make sure they match the ones you bought in step 1 unless you don't care.
4) Replace missing hubcap.

Now you have three extra hub caps should anything go wrong.

In one case I found stock half moon hubcaps and replaced the temperamental wheel covers with those.

I had long forgotten that "Moon Disc" was actually a brand. Now I remember the logo.
