Toy Shopping Spree

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

There are probably more of these stories out there, but we just don't know about them.

While I applaud him, that's like an average person making $28,000 a year donating $5.00.

Those donating $5.00 are making every bit the sacrifice that he is, but you don't see them on the news.

It's really sad in that way.

So true that's chump change to him and most likely a tax write-off.
Do ya want to see a few smiles this week it's easy and not very expensive either.
Go buy a 2 dollar box of Christmas cards and put 5-10 dollars in each one, whatever you can afford and hand them out to those who are working a little extra hard for ya or working outside in the rain gathering carts, or bringing your groceries to the car. I once handed a guy a card who had some road rage towards me for his mistake. He opened it and thanked me. I till this day HOPE I changed his life. :D

This is a puzzling thread; it appears the original post was deleted, but from the title of the thread, I think it was about the guy who bought all the toys for poor kids at Toys r Us. Anyway the thread was trashed, as usual, so we move on.

I don't see where it was trashed. Don't be so thin-skinned, MrB.
Banni made a valid point from a Scriptural point of view. Remember the widow and her last coin?
Also valid is the point about publicity. Again, we ain't supposed to give conspicuously.

Note: Just because I'm agnostic doesn't mean I'm unaware of such. It's pretty universal among religions to give help, the Golden Rule, Love thy Neighbor, and such.

Are you chiding MrB. for deleting the post or me for saying it was trashed? :-0?>

How so? Andre Johnson's generosity was universally praised, it was just also put into perspective. And, I went out of my way to praise every poster by name, con and lib, by guessing that that they do more in relative terms. Where's the "trashed" in that?
My guess would be here:

The gesture of his action was lost in the bashing of the size of his gift, or why he did it. Regardless of his wealth, he shared.

Both, though thin-skinned probably wasn't the best choice of words. As Banni says, sometimes MrB is just cranky, and I suppose that's why he deleted his post.

Old curmudgeon, but I'm pretty sure he gives and gives while asking for nothing in return. The old coot has a big heart.

I think the value of a gift to the recipient is more important than the cost of the gift to the giver.
