Saw in this week's Lucky's (Albertson's) ad that they were featuring whole fresh chickens at $.59/lb.
Now that's a deal, these days. So I drove over to Lucky's this morning and stocked up on six such birds (limit is four two-bird bags).
I will be attentive to hand sanitizer as I unpack and prepare these. Four of them are destined for the freezer. The other two I'm planning on mounting cheek to jowl on the rotisserie. Yay.
Now, why the Corona part? Well, I asked the guy dumping more birds into the bin at Lucky's where they came from. "Foster Farms?" "Tyson?". He replied "Tyson". That rang a bell, as Tyson has shut down one of its main chicken processing plants due to a LOT of the employees getting Covid19. So I'm guessing it's had to either push waiting chickens out the door and get some profit, vs. simply euthanizing them (which I also read that Tyson is doing).
So, yeah. Hand sanitizer, soap and water etc. I'm sure the roasting will handle any residual viral contamination. The guts will go raw to the cat... Awww...
Guts?
My butcher takes out the guts, but leaves the giblets - for the gravy and for the dog.
Are you sure you don't want my kibble recipe? It's loved by cats and dogs alike.

Poor paranoid baby, awww. You're so butthurt that you're even sabotaging your own redundant vanity thread . Fwiw, I had already read but didn't even notice that what pedantic billy.pilgrim corrected you on is a flub. Your whining is not only pitiful, it's nonsensical.

You called it. He just can't stop.

You fail comprehension, again. I explicitly expressed my disinterest in YOUR "giblets" pedantry.
Dude, YOU got it bad, real bad. You really ought to contemplate how often the things you're throwing tantrums over are the result of your rotten comprehension skills.
Guaranteed: This will be yet another obvious major screw up that billy.pilgrim will never have the balls to admit.
Must be dementia. Pitiful.

We didn't get that same deal at the local Albertson's/Vons. Probably just as well. We're going to try to stick to localish supply as much as possible, and generally avoid Smithfield. I don't know that they're really any dirtier than anywhere else, but we did get some insight into their employment/business practices with that debacle in Sioux Falls. We laid in a good supply of most of the meats we eat before they started talking about possible "shortages" so we're in pretty good shape. And then we have our excellent fishmonger.

You're in SoCal, right? Huntington Beach? I don't think we have "Vons" up here.
Likewise, my freezer was well stocked before this "deal". Two are dry marinating as we speak now, in a fridge. Remains to be seen. Neither bird had any kitty consumables; giblet or guts or whatever. So there is that. Otherwise they looked and smelled OK. And the cat got very excited.
do you have a pressure cooker and are you interested in making kibble?

Yes, I have a pressure cooker.
Why?
are you interested in making kibble?

Kibble, or quibble?
Don't we have enough quibble here already?
I'll take that for a no.

Just when you thought things in 2020 couldn’t get any worse … a man wearing a Klu Klux Klan hood was spotted shopping at a grocery store in San Diego.
Several photos of the man emerged on social media showing him with the KKK mask on walking around the store and casually adding items to his shopping cart at the Vons store on Mission Gorge Road in Santee, California near San Diego on Saturday (May 2)....
Apparently some store workers asked him to take off the hood but didn't have authority (or nerve) to force the issue. The manager told him to take it off or leave and he took it off, checked out his groceries and did leave. Guy was an asshole, for several reasons, but I suspect - guess - that he was more just making a crude protest against the requirement to wear a mask. One does wonder, however, where he got the hood in the first place.

I wonder if anyone got a better pic of his face than this:
