We just had the deadliest CV-19 day yet.

Mississippi governor reconsiders reopening state after its largest spike of COVID-19 deaths and cases

MS just had its worst CV-19 day yet. It's refreshing to see a Repug gov that can admit being wrong.

There might have been a bit of visual exaggeration about the OC beaches:

Same for the Pensacola Beach spring break photos. No doubt that some were too close, but politicians and the media have to put honesty above politics with this virus.

It takes a shot from the air to get a decent representation.

City ends face-mask rule for shoppers after store employees are threatened

The mayor of an Oklahoma city amended an emergency declaration requiring customers to wear face masks while inside businesses after store employees were threatened with violence.

Stillwater Mayor Will Joyce announced the change Friday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the declaration took effect.

In the short time beginning on May 1, 2020, that face coverings have been required for entry into stores/restaurants, store employees have been threatened with physical violence and showered with verbal abuse," City Manager Norman McNickle said in a statement. "In addition, there has been one threat of violence using a firearm." ...

Yep - easier to force the workers to increase their personal risk of disease than to enforce their own regulation. Does make one wonder, though, why would a store/restaurant want customers that threatened the staff, or that came in with guns? Because Oklahoma?

... The city manager pointed out that face masks and coverings are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state's health department to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

"The wearing of face coverings is little inconvenience to protect both the wearer and anyone with whom they have contact," McNickle said, condemning those who threatened violence. "It is unfortunate and distressing that those who refuse and threaten violence are so self-absorbed as to not follow what is a simple show of respect and kindness to others.

He said businesses still have the right to require customers to wear a face mask or covering to enter.
I get the tough position the city is in, but this seems to be throwing responsible businesses under the bus. They can no longer "blame" the city.

Anyhow, this is part of the reason that states should hesitate before reopening too quickly. It gives the dangerous jerks more options.

Ever since the CDC changed its advice, grocery stores have mostly required face covering. And as of May 1, everyone going out in public is required to wear one when inside, or around other people (6 feet). So no real requirement to wear them outside constantly, but in any open business.

The Stillwater issue may be due in part to the governor not making it a statewide mandate.

Walla Walla County has walked back their previous statements about COVID-19 “parties” taking place in the area, but are sounding the alarm over gatherings as their case count rises.

A bunch to be sure, but 7,500 warnings is not 7,500 warned.

But 7,500 warned does make a better headline.

Okay, what's your data on how many were warned?

My best guess from the article - a bunch

Just pointing out the misleading headline. No way to know how many individuals were warned.

Each cop could have kept a count of warnings, but no way to tell if individuals were warned by multiple cops.

I think my reaction would be the same if 2500 people were warned, and I'd guess that the park still would have been closed.

no disagreements there. Tickets, not warnings, should have been given.

Just pointing out the misleading headline. There have been way too many lately. It ain't helping.

Or, conversely, several individuals covered by the same "verbal warning." "Yo, all of you move along now - vete!" (clicks warning counter once)
