Re: 2020 Elections
I've never been much of a state-rights person, but really, I would have never in my worst nightmare guessed the US would elect a Trump, and if it did that the "Trump" would/could be as awful as he is and that neither Congress nor public opinion could/would rein him in. It would have been inconceivable just a few years ago that corruption, propaganda, lying, and authoritarianism would be as rampant in the US federal government as in the former Soviet Union, and that indeed the closest foreign allies of the US President would be the former head of the Soviety KGB and the North Korean dictator who kills off his family members for minor affronts. It would have been a ridiculous premise of a film to have the US President jump so far off the rails as to intentionally alienate the country's long-time closest allies, and to arbitrarily end world-wide agreements.
But here we are, and we have an election. If Trump got elected again, I could start to understand the old secessionists a bit better. How does one support those in office when they're destroying the fundamental structure of the government? There isn't currently a "United" States by anything other than legal technicalities.

"forever" sounds much better. Haven't you learned anything in the past 3 years?

It kinda feels like "forever".
2008 was a good year electorally, but the economy sucked.

Dear Gov. Roy Cooper, Charlotte Mayor Vi Alexander Lyles, Rep. Chuck McGrady and Sen. Chuck Edwards,
Re: Trump warns he may move Republican convention site from NC

It will be irresponsible, stupid and dangerous to hold the RNC here during a pandemic, and I don’t think it’s possible to enforce adequate safety measures.
This crazy idea just to boost Trump’s ego reminds me of:
Philadelphia Threw a WWI Parade That Gave Thousands of Onlookers the Flu
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/ ... 180970372/
“Within 72 hours of the parade, every bed in Philadelphia’s 31 hospitals was filled. In the week ending October 5, some 2,600 people in Philadelphia had died from the flu or its complications. A week later, that number rose to more than 4,500. With many of the city’s health professionals pressed into military service, Philadelphia was unprepared for this deluge of death.
Attempting to slow the carnage, city leaders essentially closed down Philadelphia. On October 3, officials shuttered most public spaces – including schools, churches, theaters and pool halls. But the calamity was relentless. Understaffed hospitals were crippled. Morgues and undertakers could not keep pace with demand. Grieving families had to bury their own dead. Casket prices skyrocketed. The phrase ‘bodies stacked like cordwood’ became a common refrain.”
FYI, I would be saying the exact same thing if it was the DNC - Cancel the NC RNC!
Sincerely,
(Vrede too), RN

This is about Republicans from all over the country spending a week protesting unconstitutional social distancing by kissing and hugging on each other before returning to their republican families and before meeting with many other gop leaders in their home states in the weeks and 2 months before the election.

It was a thoughtless comment, although largely true, but would have been better delivered by an actual Black guy. Anyway, he apologized for it, said he shouldn't have been so flippant. I don't mind saying it was an unwise and tasteless comment. Wonder how many trumpettes are willing to say that about things their guy says daily.Ulysses wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 7:37 pmDid you miss that the "slam Biden" comments all came from REPUBLICANS?1 CAT FAN wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 6:07 pmAfrican American figures slam Biden on 'you ain't black' comments

BET co-founder rips 'arrogant' Biden: He should apologize 'to every black person he meets'
https://thehill.com/homenews/media/4992 ... ack-person
"Vice President Biden’s statement today represents the arrogant and out-of-touch attitude of a paternalistic white candidate who has the audacity to tell black people, the descendants of slaves, that they are not black unless they vote for him," Johnson told Fox News. "This proves unequivocally that the Democratic nominee believes that black people owe him their vote without question, even though we as black people know it is exactly the opposite."
Biden apologized later Friday after considerable blowback, with #YouAintBlack and #JoeBidenIsARacist being top trending topics on social media.

If only black Republicans are complaining about Biden's remark, that would indicate their outrage is more political than racial. In which case, it's fake outrage.

Thank you for your email. With the health and safety of our residents and visitors being the top priority, the city of Charlotte will continue to follow guidance from Governor Cooper and public health professionals in determining the best and safest way to host the Republican National Convention. While I've remained consistent in my statements regarding the RNC being held in Charlotte, the science and data will ultimately determine what we will collectively do for our city.
