2020 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

 12 points! Almost exactly matches the Reuters/Ipsos poll's 13 points above.

... I don't even worry about individual polls (accuracy) except for knowing that Rasmussen is way con (C+ per FiveThirtyEight) and Faux Noise polling appears surprisingly legit (A- per FiveThirtyEight).

Klobuchar withdraws from veepstakes, says Biden should pick woman of color

I'm not a fan, but good for her. She really threw down the gauntlet for Joe. I'm not sure that he could pick a white now. I've said all along that I think he should and will pick whoever gives him the best chance of winning, but not another pol in her 70s (sorry Liz!).

Huh?
Hardy American citizens braved the constant barrage of German and Japanese bombers laying seige to our great American cities to cast their ballots and exercise their freedom in the midst of a hail of bullets raining down upon polling stations from above.

Never forget.

Plus, those millions of soldiers and sailors were shipped home to vote. Not one of them voted by mail.

but if you remember, those military mail-in votes included a lot of fraud. Many that were counted for Bush were postmarked more than 10 days after the election and there were a lot, especially in Florida, that were filled out improperly and were illegally corrected by county election officials.
Gore tried to object and there was an overwhelming, "but but the military, Gore hates the military".
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

It's a well known fact that hostilities were paused for several months prior to an election so soldiers could pack up and head home to vote. Opposing sides pinky promised to stop the war until voting could be completed and American soldiers could return to the front. Traffic cones were used to mark the location of machine gunner nests and troop locations, and small bright orange flags, stuck into the ground at 5 foot intervals, were used to mark the front lines. Upon their return, soldiers would take up positions, remove the traffic cones and flags, and a referee from a neutral country would blow his whistle to resume hostilities.

MY NC11:
I know, y'all don't really care. I just wanted to show you this crappy ad.

Trump Conservative: Madison Cawthorn

 Ooooh, socialists :o .

He's running against Lynda Bennett in the 6/23 primary runoff. I can't vote in it since I voted in the Dem primary.

12-way primary:
Lynda Bennett, businesswoman - 22.7%
Madison Cawthorn, motivational speaker (disabled in MVC, maybe brain injury? ;) ) - 20.4
Tight.

Bennett endorsers:
Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States
Mark Meadows, White House Chief of Staff and former U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 11th congressional district (2013-2020)
Jim Jordan, U.S. Representative for Ohio's 4th congressional district and ranking member of the House Oversight Committee
Andy Biggs, U.S. Representative for Arizona's 5th congressional district (2017-present)[158]
Ted Cruz, United States Senator from Texas (2013-present)[159]
American Conservative Union
Citizens United
Susan B. Anthony List

Guess I'll root for Cawthorn. The winner will face Moe Davis in Nov. Most polls consider it "Safe R" despite being un-gerrymandered.

Primary runoff today. I'm getting robo-calls from 45SHOLE for Bennett. If I was a Repug and not a diehard Trumpette, this alone would make me vote for Cawthorn. If Bennett wins the runoff, I wonder if her PINO support might give Dem Davis a chance in Nov. That would be amazing.

 Thanks! FU PINO, Meadows and the Repug establishment. Although, it might have been better if it wasn't such a rout. Close races generate more hard feelings, and Cawthorn absolutely is an asshole.

He should fit well into Meadow's seat, then.
But it would seem that a 24-year old asshole might provide a better path for the good guy. What's he like?

I did not vote for Moe Davis in the primary. However, he's got a pretty good resume, better than I knew when I voted. He might have a shot against the kid, but it's still a tough district.

If a Dem wins here it probably also means that:
Sen. Tillis (R) gets ousted by Cunningham (D);
Biden wins NC, and if so Biden wins the US.

Whatever happens, Meadows getting humiliated at home tonight is excellent.

Black challenger Bowman leads in bid to oust veteran congressman Engel in U.S. primaries

Jamaal Bowman, a liberal Black middle-school principal, was ahead in early Democratic primary election results Tuesday in his bid to oust long-time U.S. Representative Eliot Engel from a congressional seat representing part of New York.

The New York Times declared progressive Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez the winner in her contest against a challenger in a neighboring New York district, in races that tested the strength of the Democratic Party’s left wing after moderate Joe Biden became the presumptive presidential nominee....

New York officials said results on Tuesday night did not include returns from absentee ballots, which were requested in record numbers during the coronavirus pandemic. Those ballots will not be completely counted until a week after the election. Hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots were also outstanding in Kentucky.

Bowman, 44, was leading Engel, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, by 59.48% to 35.31%, the New York state elections board said, with 627 of 732 election precincts reporting. Whoever wins the Democratic nomination is likely to win the seat in November.

“Eliot Engel used to say he was a thorn in the side of (Republican President) Donald Trump,” Bowman told supporters. “But you know what Donald Trump is more afraid of than anything else? A Black man with power. That is what Donald Trump is afraid of,” Bowman said.

Progressive Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren as well as Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Bowman, while Democratic Party stalwarts, such as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the party’s 2016 presidential nominee, rallied around Engel....

Ocasio-Cortez, the 30-year-old progressive firebrand better known as AOC, ran far ahead of former CNBC television anchor Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, 53, who was backed by the conservative-leaning U.S. Chamber of Commerce in a New York City district. [L1N2DW2HQ]

Ocasio-Cortez said her reported results of about 70 percent of the vote would be a “transformative” mandate. Caruso-Cabrera had 18.96% of the vote....
Does "The Squad" accept men? Cons were SOOO sure that AOC could and would be defeated. I wonder how much money they threw into the "race"?

There was no basis whatsoever for that fairy tale belief. Among the people in her district, who are the ones actually getting to vote, she has consistently been highly popular with high approval ratings.
