Plenty of room for you out west.
NW Florida seems about as safe as anywhere - as long as you set your own rules and don't get near the morons running around like trump.

Dade County has over 30,000 cases

Santa Rosa has 437.

Probably mostly because of we are a mostly rural county. Residential developments typically are spread out on larger lots
Yeah, you don't really get a clear picture of the degree of infestation going by state data- and sometimes county level can be deceiving. Maybe as it goes along they'll start treating major breakouts like fires - throw a lot of resources on it to beat it down before it spreads. It's not always the high population places, though. Yakima county in WA has 250,000, and a lot of agriculture - and agriculture workers. They've had 6,000 cases. For reference, San Diego County has 3 million people and 11,000 cases.

"Set your own rules" is key, fershure.

As coronavirus spreads to people under 40, it's making them sicker — and for longer — than once thought

A part of me is glad if news like this makes them act more responsibly. Then, there's a tiny evil part of me that's a little happy that not just we old farts are suffering. I'm bad.

I've realized that I'll be wearing a mask for lots longer than I'd hoped thanks to Dolt .45 and the wingnuts. So, I shaved off my 3-year growth of post-retirement beard.

The city of Milton made face masks mandatory on Friday, on Monday several idiots backed them down with yellow shirts emblazoned with WE DO NOT CONSENT.
Some offered reasons:

“I’m here to tell you that you cannot shame me, and this uniform should tell you that I cannot be intimidated,” he said, wearing a camouflage shirt with khaki pants.

they’re finding out it is not as deadly as they made it out to be,” she said. “They hyped it up to scare people into submission.

"This is America- a republic, a free country where thousands upon thousands of people have died so that we can speak," said resident Craig Morin."

"Critics say they believe these mandates infringe on their rights."

"I can't breathe in these things," said Mercedes Palma, another opposed to the mandate. "I don't think everyone should have to because this is not China."

Only 14 states are seeing coronavirus declines

... The map, which was circulated to federal agencies involved in the coronavirus response on July 1, shows that 36 out of 50 states have experienced no “days of decrease in confirmed cases.” Only 14 states show such decreases according to the graphic, and only nine of those have reached the critical threshold of 14 consecutive days of declining numbers of new infections, a critical metric according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The states showing decreases of at least a single day are Oregon, Nebraska, South Dakota, Indiana, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Delaware and Hawaii.

Washington, D.C., which is not a state, is also experiencing a decrease in new infections.

Image

...
North Carolina: 8-13 days of decrease, only state in the South showing any decrease at all. I was worried for quite awhile because things just weren't improving here despite having a more aggressive Gov.

Sigh. It's been bad here all along. 2 months ago my MD said it was because of all the elder homes, but I suspect that's not still the reason.

Good lord no. Black Rose and Mezzaluna just closed because they had employees test positive. Hannahs just closed their dining room.
I've seen videos and pics all over NSA book of maskless idiots quaffing beers, smiling and hugging at the breweries all over town.

Completely predictable.

I wonder how bad it has to get before there are noticeable demographic shifts due to the vulnerable elderly dying off.

Not sure what you mean, but Hendersonville certainly looks like a microcosm of Texas, Florida and Arizona. Again, I've seen friends kids posting recent pics tubing down the French Broad etc.

Even if more young people are testing +, more old people are still dying. How long does this go on before there's a significant change in the local age profile, for example of Hooterville?

So I can report without doubt that though it may take a while, the politicization of face coverings will go away. It appears WalMart will vigorously enforce face coverings at least when it is required by the law, and upon my venture into there today I found a minimal number without coverings. If WalMart shoppers go along with it, it will eventually become ordinary.

Oh wow, that's a big open ended question. Afaik most of the deaths have been in nursing homes. Mandatory masks which were just implemented and at least a partial shutdown could really make a huge difference for all.

Aren't there fireworks tomorrow night? So dumb.

No on-site viewing. Idk how crowded off-site locales will be.
4th of July Fireworks

A spectacular Independence Day fireworks display will take place at sundown at 9:30pm. The Independence Day Fireworks Display may be viewed from downtown Hendersonville and the south side of town near the intersection of Hwy. 225 South and Hwy. 176 and along Spartanburg Highway. A large red balloon will be launched the morning of the 4th to signify visibility of the fireworks show, if you can see the “Big Red Balloon”, you can see the fireworks from your location. The fireworks launch site is off of South Grove Street, which is not accessible to the public.

In keeping with social distancing guidelines there will not be a Music on Main concert held this year on July 4th. Tune into WTZQ AM-1600 & The Q – 95.3 FM for a patriotic soundtrack that will be synchronized to the fireworks display.
I think it's usually at Jackson Park, but controlling access there would be difficult.

I didn't entirely like it, but I've shopped at Walmart when I was on the road.

1. It's always easy to find, compared to trying to learn the best local business/es.
2. It's always easy to return items at a store hundreds of miles away.

Also, sometimes in Hooterville the item I want ain't available elsewhere. :(
