Coronavirus

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

So I can report without doubt that though it may take a while, the politicization of face coverings will go away. It appears WalMart will vigorously enforce face coverings at least when it is required by the law, and upon my venture into there today I found a minimal number without coverings. If WalMart shoppers go along with it, it will eventually become ordinary.
Where are you now and why on earth would you go to Walmart under any circumstances?
I know, right? Long a WalMart despiser, but I've found that travelers sometimes don't have the option of a Publix, Wegman's, or Vons. But mainly because for certain types of RV-specific supplies like toilet paper, tank chemicals, etc., that sometimes the choice is WalMart or Camping World, which is its own nightmare and has way higher prices. And sometimes they turn out to be a decent place to shop. Not that they aren't scum for their predatory marketing, small-town raping, and plantation style labour relations, but still.

Right behind bars and churches.

A bar around here had a live band. The singer tested positive. Turns out a ton of people in the bar contracted the corona. Oops.

I've enjoyed time in a lot of bars over the years, from dingy neighbourhood pubs to fancy schmancy places, but I can't see why anybody would find it a good idea to go to an indoor bar right now. If up to 40% of covid carriers don't have noticeable symptoms for a while (or ever), you can be statistically confident that in any bar with a hundred people, you're going to have some infection. You can be equally confident that you won't be able to keep everyone 6 feet away, and that there will be loud talkers all around you. Not worth it.

And I can't imagine what is going to happen when colleges and universities open back up and the dorms become ground zero for a huge surge of infections.
You don't have to imagine. It's here.

Pandemic loneliness, unemployment, and social distancing limitations on shelters and rehabs have led to a large increase in opioid ODs. :(

Gee golly, I've got an idea. Let's get the president to play cheerleader and get some of the manufacturing companies to convert to making masks and other protective gear. I read once that FDR was able to get manufacturers to convert from whatever they were making to make war equipment.
Problem solved.

Except that, first trump and pense would have to die before President Pelosi could do anything.

If we only had a president.
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

Miami is a new coronavirus hot spot, internal CDC document says

Miami-Dade is screwed, but so are LA, GA, CO, parts of TX, central WA, much of CA, a surprising chunk of northern UT & NV & southern ID, urban NV and SE NM.

NC and SC look like they have measles. As usual, SC is worse. :P
