A charred wine cork works well. I never did full blackface, but used it as part of some costume - football player? camo soldier? I can't recall.

I never wore blackface nor know anyone who did, but I did once spray paint a guys hands and feet white while he was passed out drunk in Knoxville TN many years ago....even have pictures of it. Also stuffed a potato into his pants. He had the whitest hands and feet around for a couple of months.

On Facebook, someone had made a comment about black face being used by the author in the book "Black Like Me", where a white man disguises himself as a black man and writes about his experiences to bring to light racism. This was written back in the 1959 and published in 1961 (I think). Anyway, people were trying to "cancel" this book by saying it was racist for the dude to wear blackface, and it's whitewashing black experiences because it's a white guy writing about the experiences of black folks. Ok, but sort of. The spirit of the book wasn't to white-wash anything. It was written to bring to show how black folks were being treated poorly due to rampant racism.

Context of time and place is very, very important. It was an incredibly good book in my opinion and brought to the forefront deeply ingrained racism to white folks. The author even received death threats for publishing the book.

I think I read "Black Like Me" years ago, but don't remember much of it. But there have been a lot of experiments done demonstrating the difference in treatment of people of a different race, obese people, poorly dressed people, religious attire, etc. Same person goes into the same setting, says the same things, acts the same way, with the only difference being the race/weight, whatever. There was also a study done on resumes where the identical resume was sent in but one had a name like Sherika and the other like Heather and every time the Heathers got called in more often for interviews.

It's probably the people working for him. "Trolling" is super in vogue nowadays. Stephen Miller is an outright white nationalist. A lot of alt-righters have a hard-on for Trump, so they're probably throwing out all of these not so subtle dog whistles to "troll" the left and signal racist assholes.
