Guns, race, religion, terror, wingnut thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Ok, so it appears that there is no minimum subscription time (other than a month) and cancellation is reportedly not difficult. We'll give it a shot to see "Hamilton."

I look forward to your review.

:confusion-scratchheadblue: I've probably seen less than 5 live musicals in my life, and the cinema/TV ones I've watched are all decades old. I think Chicago (2002), which was fun, was the most recent.

Looks like it was just positive comments about musicals. I had not read them until now.

Oh, I think there are many excellent ones in addition to Chicago.
Phantom of the Opera
Lion King
Annie
Les Miserables
Cats (the real one, not the Taylor Swift version)
Mama Mia
Jersey Boys

And some older ones that became classics.

We've seen all those and more live - which makes a big difference. Film versions, like Chicago, can still be good, but live is better.

I forgot about Mama Mia (2008 film). I liked it, as did lots of audiences, but the critics weren't so happy with it.

I've not seen the full version of any of the others you mention in any form, just excerpts.

I've seen exactly none of them. My experience with musicals, other than Rocky Horror, has been Sound of Music- because there was nothing else on tv and West Side Story - probably because it had hoods smoking cigarettes.

So, if O Really tells me that Hamilton is just average, I must be a musical fan.

And don't forget The Mandalorian and the many National Geographic shows on Disney

Rocky Horror - one of my all time favourites in any form - is in a class by itself.

I would pay to see a mash up of Rocky Horror, Sound of Music and West Side Story.

I have seen the 1960 film The Little Shop of Horrors, a live stage musical and the 1986 musical film.

I liked the 1986 film the most. It's hard to top Rick Moranis and the three-girl "Greek chorus"—Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon.

I forgot about Little Shop, I enjoyed it, but some of the songs drug on.

The Jets, a white gang, would also all be Nazis, of course.

Julie Andrews' Maria singing:

"Toucha toucha toucha touch me, I wanna be dirty
Thrill me chill me fulfill me
Creature of the night.
Then if anything grows while you pose
I'll oil you up and rub you down
And that's just one small fraction of the main attraction
You need a friendly hand and I need action"

It is likely true that most of those who fought for the Confederacy weren't enthusiastic slavers, but were just fighting for their own land/home and in many cases got rounded up and conscripted. And there were many defections. But the leaders are different. One doesn't have to guess about their intents and their reasons - just read what they themselves said and wrote. They declared themselves another country. They created their country to protect slavery. They waged war against the United States. That's what they said - repeatedly. Anybody who makes up nice romantic stories of honour and knightly intent is just making it up as they go along.
