Re: What are you watching?
Lately I've been watching a show called "Escape to the Country" on DABL channel; it's about folks in the UK moving out of cities to more rural areas. Some of the rural houses are really cool; some with thatched roofs and some that are three or four hundred years old. I've noticed that many of the older houses have doorways that are quite low, as if the British were stooped over morons back then. Or maybe it's just more of that odd British humor to be continually banging your head on a low doorway. I keep watching in hopes of seeing what a lightning strike does to a thatched roof house.

Dr. Anthony Fauci Cold Open - SNL
Not the world's best impression, but still an inspired choice to portray him. Funny, too.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 10:46 amDr. Anthony Fauci is named People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive".
NBC brought out a second “SNL at Home” episode this week, and the show kicked off with another big celebrity cameo in the form of Brad Pitt delivering a solo sketch as America’s favorite disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci.
It was a nice bit of casting, as Fauci had joked this week that he’d like Brad Pitt to play him when a reporter asked him on CNN who he’d like to have portray him on “SNL.”
Poor cons.

btw - Lafayette and Jefferson are played by the same actor. Someone else didn't understand why Jefferson didn't show up early on, after I had said to watch for Jefferson.
I don't know if you watch Marvel, but Avengers End Game is pretty good and Agent Carter is good comic book fun.

I just finished it on this recommendation - Great series. ThanksUlysses wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 9:18 pmJust finished watching last night the extra content on the sixth DVD of Band of Brothers. I hadn't realized that the actors were subjected to 10 days of realistic basic training before starting filming. Ron Livingston was handed a camera by the producers to document most of it, except for the couple of days when General Dyer (who commanded the training) forbid its use. He was later overruled, LOL.GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 2:39 pm

Only one casualty during the training; the guy who played Compton got accidentally smacked in the mouth by a rifle tip. Two stitches. Don't recall it showing up in the series, but if it did, it would have added some realism.
Altogether it was well done, even if Ross never saw Rachel in it.

Re: What are you watching?
The Pacific was such a different war than Europe. Band of Brothers followed a journey of a few men as they fought for every step along their slog from France and Belgium to Germany in a way that we can all almost imagine. The Pacific was a different war, as was the series. The Pacific battles were more intense and instead of a continuous battle along a front as in Europe, each battle had a beachhead, followed by huge violent casualties on both sides, followed by a success, and that followed by redeployment or shore leave. Then doing it all over again.
The Pacific also paid more attention to PTSD.
I enjoyed both for historical accuracy, but The Pacific didn't/couldn't have the flowing storyline. Both are worth the time to watch.

The War
Ken Burns' award-winning WW2 TV mini-series (2007), 14 hours.
First 2.5 hours on one of my PBS stations tonight. I can't recall if I watched before. I didn't think so, but the Tom Hanks narration rings a vague bell.

Re: What are you watching?
Great website here - views from people's windows around the world, and you can send in your own. https://www.window-swap.com/
The idea is for people around the world to shoot 10-minute video clips from the perspective of looking through a window in their home or apartment, and to submit these to the couple’s site. So far, hundreds of people around the world have done so (all you have to do is email a horizontal, HD video that includes your window and frame to qunaliaa@gmail.com), and the results offer a welcome escape, however brief, from the feeling of being stuck at home, wherever you happen to be in the world.
The best way to enjoy the site, in my opinion, is on a big, expansive computer screen. And make sure your sound is turned on. As you cycle through the respective video snippets, you may even find yourself feeling a strange bit of relief. You’ll see people carrying groceries down the street. Cars sputtering by. A cat nestled beside a typewriter in the warm glow of the sun. “So this is what it’s like to live in British Columbia, Canada,” I find myself musing, staring out of “Kaslow’s Window” (they’re all labeled with the submitter’s name) at the sublime vista of a lake with trees and hills all around. The idea is for people around the world to shoot 10-minute video clips from the perspective of looking through a window in their home or apartment, and to submit these to the couple’s site. for reasons I can't explain, I started the Netflix series the 100. It actually started out as not that bad, but quickly progressed into a progression of people making decisions that nobody, not even trumpaloons would make.
Rather than wasting your time with the whole series, just watch this geico commercial.
