The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

If you think bleach is a godsend, just imagine what the combination of bleach and duct tape would cure. Those two, along with a plastic Jesus bobblehead, will cure almost anything.

Bosnia Muslims mourn their dead 25 years after Srebrenica massacre

... On July 11, 1995, after capturing Srebrenica, Serb forces killed more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys in a few days....

- Genocide label -

The episode -- labelled as genocide by two international courts -- came at the end of a 1992-1995 war between Bosnia's Croats, Muslims and Serbs that claimed some 100,000 lives.

So far, the remains of nearly 6,900 victims have been found and identified from more than 80 mass graves.

Bosnian Serb wartime military chief general Ratko Mladic, still revered as a hero by many Serbs, was sentenced to life in prison by a UN court in 2017 over war crimes including the Srebrenica genocide. He is awaiting the decision on his appeal.

Radovan Karadzic, a Bosnian Serb wartime political leader, was also sentenced to life in prison in The Hague.

The Srebrenica massacre is the only episode of the Bosnian conflict to be described as genocide by the international community.

And while for Bosnian Muslims recognising the scale of the atrocity is a necessity for lasting peace, for most Serbs -- leaders and laypeople in both Bosnia and Serbia -- the use of the word genocide remains unacceptable....

On Friday, the town's Serbian mayor Mladen Grujicic -- who was elected in 2016 after a campaign based on genocide denial -- said that "there is new evidence every day that denies the current presentation of everything that has happened".

Bosnian Serb political leader Milorad Dodik has also described the massacre as a "myth"....

Bakir Izetbegovic, leader of the main Bosnian Muslim political party, the SDA, and son of Alija Izetbegovic, the Bosnian president at the time of the conflict, called on the world to push back against the deniers.

"The international community did not defend Srebrenica 25 years ago, but it has the opportunity to defend the truth that is being challenged," Izetbegovic said.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday described the events 25 years ago as "the painful symbol of the international community's failure to protect civilian populations who had been most in need of its help".

While calling for reconciliation, he said there was "no place for negationism, historical revisionism or the glorification of war criminals," in a country which has expressed a wish to join the European Union....
Headline fix:

Bosnia Muslims mourn their dead 25 years after Srebrenica massacre by Christians, still the worst act of terrorism in Europe for many decades

A Megachurch (evangelical Presbyterian) Reels After Learning Pastor Let His Professed Pedophile Son Work With Kids (for 1.5 years)

Lots of sordid details, though no actual child abuse has been alleged yet. The only hero is:
... Some members have also been upset over how the board’s chairwoman attempted to discredit the whistleblower, Daniel Lavery, a trans writer and Ortberg’s estranged (other) son, who has broken from his family’s conservative evangelical faith....

An interesting article about how human evolution may be evident in certain modern humans. This is something the religious fanatics will be sure to announce themselves victims of as well as somehow a threat to their religion but as usual will be relegated to the immense pile of shit they are already victims of.

They can't really know that there was only 1 infected person at the service, but still . . .
Nearly 100 people in Ohio got sick after one man infected with the coronavirus attended a church service

... A number of churches have caught headlines after large chunks of their parishioners caught the coronavirus.

In March, 35 people at a church in Arkansas caught COVID-19 after attending a service. Three of them later died of the virus.

In May, 107 people tested positive for coronavirus after attending a church service in Frankfurt, Germany.

In June, 236 people in Oregon got the coronavirus after a church held multiple services during lockdown.

During the early months of the pandemic, a secretive doomsday church in South Korea was accused of accelerating the outbreak in the city of Daegu. The city is now suing the church for endangering lives.
Seems like they're doing Satan's work to me, but what do I know?

So do these people really believe that a group of 100 business people at conference or a group of 100 concert fans in an auditorium is a covid risk but a group of 100 at a church is not? If so, do that believe that safety applies to mosques and synagogues as well as all mainstream and fringe ummm, "Christian" churches? Or just theirs?

I think they should use the same logic for other dangers, like hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, floods, etc. Tell them that you're requiring everybody else to evacuate immediately, but because they're a church they can just stay put and keep on singing.

That would be so perfect seeing those "Christians" being swept up into the air and carried away on the winds singly and in groups. They'd love it.

... The announcement comes after Falwell, a top evangelical Christian personality in the U.S., shared ― and then deleted ― a photo on Instagram in which his pants were unbuttoned and unzipped....
After all the hateful things he's done it's a little annoying that he gets ousted over a post with Peg Bundy from a stupid theme party.

Teenager in Pakistan hailed as holy warrior for shooting and killing a US man accused of blasphemy. The right wing nutjobs of the religious right here in the US only wish they could get away with this type of thing. It would serve as affirmation that they are, in fact, victims, as they incessantly screech about.

Yesterday I reached my limit, my threshold, my critical mass, of being exposed to the Christian bigot and hypocrite "Dr" Robert Jeffress and his idiotic "Pathway to Victory" bullshit in which he asserts that "there are ten survival techniques experts recognize as effective in dealing with a hostile environment." He goes on to quack that Christians in the US deal with such a hostile environment every day. I'd been exposed to this whining victim bullshit several times before but this time it was too much.......fired off an email to them asking for specific instances in which he or any other Christians face hostile environments in the US and asked whether he knew any white Christians who have had their church burned to the fucking ground, if any white Christians have been threatened or assaulted attempting to attend their church, or if he or anyone he knows has seen anyone burning a Bible or if any US president or member of Congress has treated Christians in the manner that adherents of Islam have been treated by those same presidents or members of Congress. And I asked twice "why do you hate America?" It's been more than 24 hours and I've yet to hear back. I guess they're all out fighting off the teeming hordes and are just too busy being victims. I plan to pursue this until I get an answer.

I suspect a unbiased analysis of Christian "abuse" in the US would find they abuse each other far more than anybody else abuses them.

 Thanks; I will not let this slide and plan an all out offensive against these vile religious hooligans; I'm still formulating my next tactical move.....maybe something like telling them that I myself know god personally and that he stomps to a feverish beat and hates when sniveling whiny shitheads make money by telling lies about him.

:D Yep.

Based on online porn viewing by state, I suspect that right-wing Christians "abuse" themselves more than both put together. :o
