Well, I forget now who pushed for that rule and exactly when it was implemented. But it's the main reason why McTurtle has been running rampant ever since.

There is a good chance that the dems will take back the Senate in November. This extreme hypocrisy on the part of McTurtle about allowing a new justice nomination will not reflect positively on the chances for re-election of republican senators. It may even hurt Trump's chances.

The American electorate may be divided politically, but I believe it's united in the cause of fair play. And McTurtle is dealing from a crooked deck.

I disagree; I think this will energize the wingnuts and even sway more than a few voters (particularly the "Christian" evangelicals) to vote for trump and fascism not knowing what they have done. "Fair play" was left many miles down the road and cannot even be seen in the rear view mirror.
