I thought I'd read a story recently that the issue of allowing FL felons who have served their sentences to vote was an issue currently being debated. Didn't know it had been settled. In any case, I expect Roger to resume breaking laws very soon.Whatever one thinks of the Leg rule, this is obviously about Repugs suppressing votes, again.Supreme Court temporarily blocks (some) felons from voting in Florida
The Supreme Court refused Thursday to let Florida felons who have completed their sentences vote in an upcoming primary without first paying fees, fines and restitution, as the state requires.
Voting rights groups had challenged the requirement as unconstitutional, given that state voters approved a constitutional amendment in 2018 giving hundreds of thousands of felons the right to vote. Now it will remain in effect while the case is heard next month by a federal appeals court.
The unsigned order was opposed by liberal Associate Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan. Sotomayor said it "prevents thousands of otherwise eligible voters from participating in Florida’s primary election simply because they are poor."
"Under this scheme, nearly a million otherwise-eligible citizens cannot vote unless they pay money," Sotomayor said, calling it a "voter paywall."
The dispute over the voting rights of Florida's felons could be crucial in this fall's elections because of its perennial status as a swing state. There are about 775,000 felons in the state who have completed their prison sentences, including some 85,000 who have registered to vote so far.
Most states restore felons' right to vote after their sentences, along with time on parole or probation, are complete. Many states impose additional requirements. Florida is among 11 states with the most restrictive rules, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Florida voters approved a constitutional amendment in 2018 allowing felons to vote after their sentences are complete. The initiative won 64% approval.
Thereafter, the state legislature passed and Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a law requiring that felons first pay all fees, fines and restitution owed as part of the process.
That restriction was challenged by voting rights groups, and in May, U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle struck it down as a "pay-to-vote system." But earlier this month, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit blocked Hinkle's ruling and scheduled a hearing for Aug. 18 – the date of the state primary. The registration deadline to vote is next Monday.
Voting rights groups told the Supreme Court that Florida's system amounts to a "poll tax" that violates the 24th Amendment to the Constitution.
"This is a deeply disappointing decision,” said Paul Smith, vice president of the Campaign Legal Center, which led the opposition to Florida's rule. "Florida’s voters spoke loud and clear when nearly two-thirds of them supported rights restoration at the ballot box in 2018."
In legal papers, the voting rights groups said most felons "cannot afford to pay what they owe." Even those who can, they said, usually can't figure out what they owe years after their convictions....

I would say that at least 80% of white felons in FL, or any other state, would vote for trump if they vote at all. Besides that, I figure that the vast majority of FL felons have already been purged from voter registration rolls (Ohio will purge you for not voting in a period of two years, something noted in a book I am currently reading in which an Ohio veteran who is not incarcerated and was never a felon was denied the right to vote just a couple of years ago during a state ballot initiative just because he didn't vote in any recent elections). I don't know what FL law is regarding how long before an election one must register to vote so Mike may be just wasting his money in this endeavor.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 1:01 amNow they want to prosecute him for buying votes.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 10:18 pmBloomberg got the idea from me.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 11:15 amBloomberg fucking with desantis bs. I heard on TV that the money he's putting up will only clear the way for a fraction of the former FL felons.(FL) Deadline to Register (Book Closing)
Eligible individuals can register to vote at any time. The deadline to register in order to participate in an upcoming election is 29 days before the election. The registration deadlines for 2020 are:

Thanks. I was thinking it was something like 90 days. Oh, and the guy in OH that was purged for no reason was really pissed about it and had a very good response to his being purged......he said "you don't take away my right to buy a gun if I don't buy one." Heavy play in all media that I read or watched.
That's almost 3 per week. Most corrupt POTUS ever.'Extraordinary': Trump has generated 3,400 conflicts of interest since entering White House, report states
Report came as New York state continued its investigation into Trump organisation
President Donald Trump has generated 3,400 conflicts of interest since entering the White House in 2017, according to a report by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) watchdog.
Some 400 of those conflicts have come since February, according to CREW, an organisation that monitors the influence of money in Capitol Hill, and has been keeping tabs on the Trump administration....
“The extraordinary numbers in this report paint a picture of a president who is fixated on the personal financial benefits he might derive from his public service—and a whole ecosystem of officials, special interests and governments that exploit that fixation in order to curry favor and advance their own interests,” CREW executive director Noah Bookbinder said in a statement....
Trump Calls It A 'Beautiful Thing' That Cops Struck Journalist Ali Velshi With Rubber Bullet
...
... The Velshi slam wasn’t the only jaw-dropping comment Trump made at the rally.
He also boasted that his overwhelmingly white supporters at the rally in Bemidji (Minnesota is 84% white) have “good genes,” raising an ominous Aryan specter from the 1940s. “You have good genes, you know that, right? A lot of it is about the genes, isn’t it, don’t you believe? The racehorse theory,” Trump said.
He also asked sarcastically if Bemidji was “having a good time with your refugees” — then pivoted to Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, who is Muslim American. “How the hell did she win?” he asked.
He suggested Omar and two other female lawmakers of color, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), be prosecuted for “buying dresses” — but offered no details. “We’ll prosecute them, yeah, why not?” he mused.
He also claimed with absolutely no evidence that the FBI is hiding Hillary Clinton’s emails from the time she was secretary of state, and he threatened to “pull licenses” from broadcasters, which he doesn’t have the power to do....
