Pussies, no one said we can't oppose hitler and the nazis just because some people might die. Same then as today - we need college football players to entertain us.

Lou Holtz was born in 1937. He was in ROTC and then "earned a commission as a Field Artillery Officer in the United States Army Reserve at the time of his graduation from college."

Apparently, he never volunteered for Vietnam despite being only 28 when LBJ escalated in 1965. Funny that.
Why Trump and the Republicans have turned college football into a new 'Normandy'

... The only problem with the Normandy analogy is that 4,414 Allied troops would die during the fighting on France’s beaches. Nobody is likely to countenance a number anywhere near that high to watch college football this fall ...

The NCAA has said it would be dangerous to proceed with a college football season. Carlos del Rio, an Emory University epidemiologist advising the NCAA on the coronavirus, compared the situation to something rather less heroic than the Normandy invasion. “I feel like the Titanic,” he said last week. “We have hit the iceberg and we’re trying to make decisions of what time should we have the band play.”

... Some conferences are proceeding in any case, with the Southeastern Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference (and Big 12) leading the way....

“We’re here to say, from the state of Florida, we want you guys to play,” said DeSantis, who played baseball at Yale. He appeared to say, much like Trump, that it was more dangerous to leave college athletes to their own devices. “The environment that sports provides at a place like Florida State is a safer environment for these kids than what they would have if they didn’t have access to this environment,” the governor, who is 41, argued.

...
Note the social distancing that won't be there for football - on the field, at the tailgate parties or in the stands.

It might seem odd that a Governor looks like a predatory capitalist, but in Tennessee they are synonyms.

He looks mean. I turned it off in the 2nd quarter. It just ain't the same without at least one SEC team.

Hey, it's billy.p's favorite team and East Carolina playing on the featured national game. I'm not sure how many people in Seattle actually know what an "East Carolina" is, but whatever. Big time.

Undefeated #13 Mickey Mouse is up a palindromic 41-14 at the start of the 4th, a national champion contender again! ;)

I'm watching a rerun of the ACL Cornhole Championships: Pro Invitational Qualifier, instead - such drama!

We get FSU and the U out here. I better watch the game before they send the best mascot ever in college football off to the rez.

I just can't understand how a team that doesn't even play a team in the top 25 (okay Memphis is 25) can be considered in the top 20.

Ranking has to be about more than picking a weak conference.

Edit: my mistake, they actually play a currently ranked #15 Cincinnati.
Wow, I'm impressed, 2 games, but none against a top ten.

Success! :P

I'm so pissed off about pandemic play that I don't care about any teams this year.

They could have just started out with all the teams that wanted to play during a pandemic and run the season like a Hunger Games tournament.

And they may be doing just that.

Still, it's football. I won't watch as much, probably only Auburn games, but I'll watch.

Look at this one handed catch

I'm not so much of a fan of TV college football, except for some select games. But it makes a really good afternoon to go to a smallish-school game live. Cozy stadium, (generally) good-natured fans, players that know this is the likely the closest to NFL they're going to get, and decent parking that doesn't cost $50.

I agree that it makes a really good day to go to a smallish-school game live. Cozy stadium with 89,000 always good-natured fans, with most players knowing this is the likely the closest to NFL they're going to get, great tailgates in a grass covered, tree shaded, park-like atmosphere and decent parking that doesn't cost $50.

Now Titans, too.
Titans-Steelers postponed

Sunday’s Titans-Steelers game has been postponed as a result of the multiple positive COVID-19 cases affecting the Titans, a league source tells PFT.

The Titans have shut their facility down for the week because of the positive tests, which yesterday included three players and five staff members, and today included a fourth player....

:D Still, UNC is behind AP #10 Penn State, which won't play its first game until 10/24, and just ahead of #14 Oregon, which won't play at all this year.
