It truly boggles the mind that the TX GOP is limiting voter drop off boxes to one per county (I am assuming counties in Texas are big) and that the CA GOP is creating bogus voter drop off boxes that they falsely label as "official." And it boggles the mind even more that these two polar opposite situations are both created solely by the GOP and evidently nobody seems to be saying very much about it. I read today that Devin Nunes, who along with Peter Navarro and Larry Kudlow, has also never been right about anything responded to the CA governor cease and desist order by tweeting "screw you." The blatancy of both these acts hurts my head.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 5:41 pmHow ride-share services are helping vulnerable voters get to the polls: 'Their voice is just as important as ours'neoplacebo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 9:24 amOpps! Is it possible that such overt anti-democratic voter suppression, election fraud and lawbreaking is actually resulting in MORE voting by marginalized communities? Idk, but I hope so. In some places people are already standing in line for 8 hours. Wow.
Our early voting begins tomorrow. I'm planning on going Fri in order to give them a day to work out any glitches. We'll see.

I'm not sure what the California GOP is up to with the fake collection boxes. They claim that a law passed in 2016 allows a "third party" to collect ballots, but of course it also requires the voter sign an authorization, yada, which the scum bags aren't doing. And from a functional point of view, how are they going to know who the ballot is for? If they open them, they'll invalidate them. If they just don't turn them in, they'll be tossing some repug votes too. And besides, they're never going to be able to collect/divert/destroy enough ballots to make any difference in anything but some small localish race.
I suspect they're just trying to create a controversy or attract/start some claim of election shittery.
Edit: Turns out they're putting them in "places where Republican voters are likely to congregate, like conservative churches and gun stores."

Re: Pubs work on plans to outright steal next election.
In theory, they are turning in all of the ballots without tampering. They're just trying to increase Repug voting by making it easier to vote in select areas. This is the reverse of TX and GA where they're trying to decrease Dem voting by making it harder for marginal folks to vote statewide.O Really wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 7:40 pmI'm not sure what the California GOP is up to with the fake collection boxes. No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made
A ballot drop box in Los Angeles County was deliberately set on fire Sunday evening and police have opened an arson investigation.
The apparent arson took place around 8:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of Baldwin Park Boulevard in Baldwin Park, a small city about 20 miles east of Los Angeles....
A number of ballots were reportedly inside the box.
... California’s ballot boxes gained national attention after state Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Secretary of State Alex Padilla accused the California Republican Party of collecting ballots via unofficial ballot boxes in multiple counties.
The state Republican Party has removed their unstaffed, unofficial ballot drop boxes that state officials deemed illegal, California’s secretary of state said Friday, and subpoenas are being issued to get more information about them as the state attorney general looks into possible election law violations.

Yeah, but four members of the Supreme Court (I hesitate to call them "Justices") voted to suppress voting. Not good, generally.Vrede too wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2020 8:58 amSupreme Court Tie Blocks GOP Effort To Limit Mail-In Voting In Pennsylvania

Re: Pubs work on plans to outright steal next election.
One election at a time. Let's hope that major (constitutional) election reform largely takes the next election out of SCOTUS' hands.
Ummm, there is no voter fraud while there is massive voter suppression.Texas doesn't need to tell mail-in voters their ballot was rejected until after the election, appellate court rules
A three-judge panel of the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decided Monday that Texas doesn't have to inform voters that their mail-in ballots were rejected due to signature problems until after the Nov. 3 election, and need not give them a chance to correct or "cure" their ballots. U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia ruled Sept. 8 that the current signature-verification system in Texas "plainly violates certain voters' constitutional rights" and must be either abandoned or replaced.
The 5th Circuit appellate court stayed Garcia's ruling Sept. 11, and it won't rule on the merits of the case until after the election. Under current law, Texas must inform voters that their ballot was rejected within 10 days after the election. "The state election code does not establish any standards for signature review, which is conducted by local election officials who seldom have training in signature verification," The Texas Tribune reports. Counties can choose to inform voters before the election and give them a chance to cure their ballot.
Texas already limits mail-in voting to people with disabilities, seniors 65 and older, and voters outside of the country or in jail during an election. "Texas' strong interest in safeguarding the integrity of its elections from voter fraud far outweighs any burden the state's voting procedures place on the right to vote," Judge Jerry Smith, a Ronald Regan appointee, wrote for the three-judge panel.
"conjuring"?The conjuring judges were appointed by Reagan and President Trump....

I'll accept the map as showing what it says based on the criteria used, however, I'm not sure ranking would always match real life difficulty. Florida may have been ranked 40 because of the felon issue, or because DeSantis certainly would like to suppress voting, but my own experience couldn't be easier. Semi-automatic registration at DMV (they ask you if you want to register); no restrictions on requesting mail-in ballot - in fact, we requested always to get them for every election for a five-year period. They mail them out early (we got ours and returned it by the second week of October); online verification of receipt and counting. I dunno what else they could do.

TN is ranked low but I've not had any problem after coming back here from NC.....called county Board of Elections to get form to register and mailed it back and use my old US Navy id card since I have not gotten a TN driver license (NC license valid until 23).

Either Officer Daniel Ubeda knows what electioneering and voter intimidation are, like every middle school Civics student does, and doesn't care because he's a cop and doesn't have to, or he's too stupid to be on the force. Fire him and charge him.
Also, a beard reduces the effectiveness of a mask dramatically. I shaved mine off in the Spring and it should be MPD policy until we are past the pandemic.

Re: Pubs work on plans to outright steal next election.
Sigh.Supreme Court bans curbside voting in Alabama
Despite COVID-19, Alabama voters can’t hand their ballots to workers outside polling sites.
The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down a voting accommodation in Alabama put in place amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In a 5-3 decision, the high court sided with a lower court and reinstated a ban on curbside voting. The process would have allowed Cotton State voters to vote from their cars at the curbside of a polling location and hand their ballots off to a poll worker.
Alabama Secretary of State John H. Merrill issued a ban on the practice earlier this year, even for people with disabilities or high-risk conditions which could put them at risk for contracting the virus and for whom it is disproportionately fatal.
Several at-risk voters challenged the ban in May and initially won that case, with a federal court ruling that a policy to allow but not require counties to conduct curbside voting was a “reasonable accommodation” of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The state fought back all the way to the Supreme Court and ultimately got a ruling in its favor.
In a statement, Merrill called the decision “a ruling in favor of election integrity and security [and] … a win for the people of Alabama.”
In writing for the three dissenting justices, Justice Sonia Sotomayor pointed to one of the case’s plaintiffs. Howard Porter Jr. is a Black man in his 70s who suffers from Parkinson’s disease and asthma.
Porter had previously told the lower court “many of my [ancestors] even died to vote. And while I don’t mind dying to vote, I think we’re past that time.”
Sotomayor also made note that the state’s absentee ballot process is challenging for disabled voters because the ballot must be returned with a copy of an ID card....

WTF is wrong with you??!! This is not about "free-speech rights" or about Trump, you ignorant twit. Officer Daniel Ubeda engaged in electioneering and voter intimidation inside a polling place, which is illegal no matter who does it. Every middle school Civics student knows this. Cops don't have special privileges. Ubeda thus brought shame upon Miami and his PD.
It is obscene that you defend him. You are bad bad bad for the FOP, Miami, policing and democracy. Grow a pair and fix what you've done or resign.
