Re: The car thread ...
The Tesla would win the race because of its much quicker start and the Lamborghini would achieve a higher speed but at a slower rate in catching up. In a slightly longer race the Lamborghini would win it all.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 4:30 pmI'm not convinced the video matches the paper time stamps.....only a tenth of a second difference in time, the Lambo gets top speed, but the video shows the Lambo like a second and a half behind. It just looks to me like the Lambo is way more than a tenth of a second behind the Tesla in the video. A tenth of a second is somewhere in the realm of a car length in distance and the video does not support this.

The ET (Elapsed Time from start line to finish line) does NOT include the Reaction Time. “ET” is NOT the time from Green light to finish, which people often confuse it to be.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Tue Nov 03, 2020 5:17 amIt just looks to me like the Lambo is way more than a tenth of a second behind the Tesla in the video. The margin that you see between the cars is the ET difference (1-2 tenths) PLUS the Reaction Time difference (5 tenths and 2 tenths, respectively).

Which is exactly why I wait as long as possible (after the finish line) before braking. At over 100MPH, I can put a full 1% back in, which is helpful for the next race(s).Vrede too wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 11:19 amGot it. Re: The car thread ...
Bullshit. In a race like this, a quarter mile sprint, there's no "reaction time" other than your response to the light bar that starts the race, Both vehicles "start" at the same "time" and the race ends at a certain "distance" after which a time to finish the race is established. You have a swing and a miss.Tesla Plaid Channel wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 3:07 pmThe ET (Elapsed Time from start line to finish line) does NOT include the Reaction Time. “ET” is NOT the time from Green light to finish, which people often confuse it to be.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Tue Nov 03, 2020 5:17 amIt just looks to me like the Lambo is way more than a tenth of a second behind the Tesla in the video. “Pay attention, car dummies,” wrote one luxury car geek. “Since the design of the car was made for racing, it’s front cut through the water like it’s supposed to cut through air. Since the rear, where its engine is located, is higher than the front, it’s no surprise that it had no problem with the flooded streets!”
Why did Miami’s Brickell become a gigantic lake that drowned streets and doomed cars?
Indeed, most Lambo models are mid-engine cars, sitting between the front and rear wheel, keeping them relatively safe from water.
So who needs a submarine when you can own this bad boy?
A Lambo expert told the Miami Herald that the lean, mean machine was a Huracan Spyder convertible, which costs about $260,000, give or take.
As long as the air intake is not submerged, the engine will keep running. You didn’t account for the muffler, and the electronicsMufflers have the exhaust keep going out, so it’s unlikely, the electronics circuit should be waterproof given how expensive these car is. This is only in split of a few seconds, more than a few minutes things will be differentThat’s not how it works unfortunately. I worked in a body shop. I am actually amazed the car didn’t start to float
It’s a mid engine car, i.e. the engine sits behind the driver (see how long the rear is?). The air intakes are where those two large black spots are, safe from water

Here's a story about a Tesla 3 crash in Oregon in which the battery pack ruptured.....I didn't know its "battery" is actually a shit load of liittle batteries apparently connected in series to each other. Anyway, one of them went through someone's window, landed on a bed, and started a fire. The story says the car was traveling over 100mph. Evidently this one didn't slow down much.....it left a 300ft trail of debris.

Only how long they last.....supposedly eight years. I imagine it's a labor intensive task but I don't know where the access to it is or if the car has to be off the ground or if two people can physically heft the battery.
Also, they're like the old xmas lights. If you break just one of the springs that hold them in place, the car won't run.

Doh! I remember you posting this but didn't think it was actually how the damn thing works. Seems like 1950's Christmas light technology. Says the guy whose stereo uses 1950's technology. One of the places I've bought vacuum tubes from has on its header "Yesterdays' technology today."
