Anyone have an opinion about the vaccine EO by DeSantis
I rarely agree with him and maybe it's just my bias - 70 and very immune comprised, but as much as I don't like the man, I think he got this right. At least for a retirement state like Florida.
My appointment is for Monday at 10:30
The CDC also suggests putting young essential workers at the same priority level as people between the ages of 65-74. DeSantis says that’s what will happen in Florida.
“'The problem is people that are 73, 74 would be in the back of the line for a young, 21-year-old worker who’s considered, quote ‘essential’ – that doesn’t, I think, make sense. So for us in Florida, we’re making it clear in this executive order that our first priority for the general population – once the nurses, the doctors and the long-term care facilities are done – is to vaccinate people 65 and up,” DeSantis explained."

I agree that older people should be toward the first of the line after health workers, etc., but IMNVHO the problem is with the meaningless term "essential worker." That might have meant something back in March/April where practically everything that really wasn't essential (like grocery stores) was closed. But now, a lot of places are open and people are going to work in those places. And those people are the ones who will bring the covid home to the older people who have been staying hunkered down. So I don't have a problem with DeSantis' theory except for it being his. And I wouldn't trust anything he comes out with to be in the best interest of anybody but himself and his cronies. I'm glad you're getting yours, though, whatever the plan. We'll probably (hopefully) get ours during January.

I think he's pandering for votes, as O Really suggests. DeSantis has not shown understanding of or concern for public health all year.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Mon Dec 28, 2020 11:52 pmI rarely agree with him and maybe it's just my bias - 70 and very immune comprised, but as much as I don't like the man, I think he got this right. As for the policy, I would have to read the CDC's rationale. The article links it:

As for you, I believe that people with increased risk factors jump the line over others the same age, anyhow. Good luck until whenever.

You are probably right about votes, not the plan, being the reason he is supporting a fairly common sense plan.Vrede too wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 12:04 amI think he's pandering for votes, as O Really suggests. Turns out that "Operation Warp Speed", which former PINO was receiving some rare praise for, is falling far short of projections. Idk how this will affect rationing policy and opinions on it. Old people are sitting in massive lines, deplorable.

What dim-wit thought it was a good idea to do covid vaccine first-come first serve and have a quarter mile of geezers standing around breathing each others' air for hours? There are all sorts of systems that could schedule times/appointments, but really, anything would have been an improvement. Like offering Monday morning to people with birthdays in January, Monday afternoon to February, etc. Or spreading out by first letter of last name. Hell, it's been years since anybody sold concert tickets from a line - and even the retailers have stopped encouraging long lines outside for black Fridays. DeSantis is not only trying for a trump cruelty award, but is surely dumber than a bag of rocks.

OK, so it's not entirely DeSantis' fault. Turns out it was the county's choice as to how to give out the vaccine and Lee County (Fort Myers) were the boneheads. From Fort Myers TV4:
"These types of issues are only happening in Lee County right now. Other counties, like Seminole and Osceola, have online registration for appointments to get a vaccine."

This is so fucked up.Long lines for COVID-19 vaccines build in Florida, Tennessee, Puerto Rico
Americans line up for shots as the uneven vaccine rollout in the U.S. continues.
... In Chattanooga, Tennessee, dozens of cars queued up Thursday morning, the first day that those 75 and older were eligible to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
Just after 10 a.m., the county health department issued a notice on Twitter, asking those farther back in the line to leave and come back another time.
Looks like he moved you up in a line for something that's unavailable, smart. Congrats.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 12:09 amYou are probably right about votes, not the plan, being the reason he (DeSantis) is supporting a fairly common sense plan.
America hates its old people.... In Florida, after Gov. Ron DeSantis expanded vaccine eligibility to those 65 years and older using an executive order, hundreds of people in Lee County, which includes Fort Myers, brought coats, chairs, blankets and tents to wait in line overnight Tuesday and get the vaccine on Wednesday.
"Supply is limited," DeSantis said Wednesday. "We don't have enough vaccines for all 4 million plus senior citizens in Florida."
Abdulla Benkhatar, who is 90 and was first in line at a local recreation center, told ABC News Fort Myers affiliate WZVN that he began waiting at 10 a.m. Tuesday....

One facet of the DNA alteration is to convince you that all is normal.

Good deal. I assume you didn't have to wait in an hours long line with your lawn chair and beer cooler since you didn't mention that.

I think that's only in 1 or 2 counties down south. Truly dumbass stuff. DeSantis believes in county rule, no matter how stupid.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 4:35 pmGood deal. I called, picked an available time, checked in, got my shot, hung around for 15 minutes to see if adverse reaction and left. I was never near anyone other than the necessary staff.

Old folks are lining up for hours in Palm Beach County . . . to make an appointment.

"Warp Speed" was pointless without federal planning, funding and implementation of distribution.
