The hospital is looking into whether the fan on an "air-powered costume" could have spread droplets after a staff member briefly wore it in the emergency department on Christmas Day....

I take that to mean that the costume wearer was unknowingly infected. I doubt that a costume fan adds that much to a hospital's normal air currents from the HVAC system and people moving.

I agree, but I doubt anyone perceived a risk. It's not like there's a gale force air escape. I don't think that I would have been concerned if a presumably cautious, asymptomatic and perhaps regularly tested staffer wore an inflatable costume in my ER . . . unless it was a blow-up:

Na, nothing nefarious. She gets a Prolia shot twice a year that for some reason needs to be done in an endocrinologists office. She was talking about wanting to get a shot, but that the lineup waiting posed certain problems for her due to some medical conditions. Her story was sufficient that they apparently felt sorry for her and - since medical providers had just been cleared to give the vaccine to 65 or over if they had enough supply - and the medical group still had a supply due in part to some vaccine refusals by staff, they offered a shot to her (and she asked about a "plus 1') So they told us to come back Thursday (yesterday).
The vaccination process here does involve a bit of waiting. Outside of hospitals, nursing homes, etc. there are 11 vaccination centers in the county (for 3.5 million people), with 2-3 more opening next week. One of those is a drive-through at the baseball arena, theoretically doing 5K shots a day. Another largish one in an old Sears store is a walk-through, with about 2K a day capacity. The others are smaller. All require appointments but they apparently aren't able to maintain a schedule and so you show up, get into the lineup and get served when you get to the head of the line no matter when your original appointment was. So depending on when you get there, you might be on line for 20 minutes or 2 hours.
So getting to go to the doc's office was a big help, which we appreciate. We may or may not be able to do that for the second, but whatever it takes we'll do it. Maybe in three weeks they'll have more centers or more organization.
I hope the Prolia is for the least serious of potential diagnoses.
It has successfully kept osteoporosis at bay. Tripped last spring and took a hard fall smack on concrete. Knee, wrist, and jaw took most of the hit. Nothing damaged past bruising. Thanks, Prolia.
