US two-tiered justice system

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

US two-tiered justice system

Unread post by bannination »

DOJ officials unblinkingly insist that the banking giant is too powerful and important to subject to the rule of law

A new episode unveiled on Tuesday is one of the most vivid examples yet of this mentality. Over the last year, federal investigators found that one of the world's largest banks, HSBC, spent years committing serious crimes, involving money laundering for terrorists; "facilitat[ing] money laundering by Mexican drug cartels"; and "mov[ing] tainted money for Saudi banks tied to terrorist groups". Those investigations uncovered substantial evidence "that senior bank officials were complicit in the illegal activity." As but one example, "an HSBC executive at one point argued that the bank should continue working with the Saudi Al Rajhi bank, which has supported Al Qaeda."

I saw a report about this the other day. If I remember correctly, their fine was less than 1% of their profit for the year. Not exactly a punishment or deterrent.

That shit pisses me off. Those greedy phukkers wrecked the global economy with their bullshit, and not one of them faced a criminal charge. They all kept their 7-figure golden parachutes.

Now a new batch of assholes knowingly aids Mexican drug cartels and Al Qaeda financial backers, and not a one of them faces a criminal charge.

Let some poor guy get caught with a baggieful, and he'll be in jail and his picture iwill be in Mug Shots. Let a Wall Streeter / banker do something immoral and illegal, and they get rewarded.

What does Stinger think about the DOJ not pursuing Corzine and what he did?

Civil suit and throwing in jail do not equate. Now, what about criminal charges?

How does Soupy Sales imagine that a company collapse equates with crashing the global economy or aiding Al Qaeda and Mexican drug cartels?

Seriously. John Corzine versus the Wall Streeters who cost the world trillions of dollars? John Corzine versus banks knowingly laundering money for drugs and terrorism?

Damn. Just damn.

What crime?

And how does that compare to funding drug cartels and Al Qaeda?

How did you ever survive in a world with as complex verbiage as insurance? The DOJ is still investigating and the civil suit is a different thing.

You ducked my question. I've answered yours twice.
"The DOJ is still investigating and the civil suit is a different thing."

Thanks for agreeing with me.

I need to find a picture of a running duck for Soupy.

He may come back with some twist about why he keeps ducking the question, but one thing's for sure . . . he ain't gonna answer it.

Pisses me off, too. Last year I got a Best Buy charge card just to buy a gift on a "12 months same as cash" deal. Now every month it bugs me to see the HSBC logo on my monthly statement. I need to pay them off as soon as possible; won't be long......
