Re: Can't make this (stuff) up
It's a DeLorean news day.
Man Pranks Police With DeLorean Made From Snow
As jokes go, this one’s pretty chill.
A Montreal man pulled a fast one on local police this month when he created a replica of the DeLorean sports car seen in the movie “Back To The Future.”
Simon Laprise built the icy imitation in a snow removal zone outside his home, according to CBS affiliate WGCL.
A police officer was fooled by the car and called another cop for support, MSN.com reports.
They eventually realized it was a fake and gave Laprise a faux parking ticket, which CBS Los Angeles said translates to, “You made our night hahahahaha”
The prank might have warmed the hearts of the police officers, but sanitation workers reportedly plowed down the snow-DeLorean the next day.

Today I read a story saying the GOP nutjob faction of the TN state legislature is putting forward a bill that would give the father of an unborn child veto power over the woman getting an abortion.......no exceptions for rape or incest. The stupid of this boggles the mind.

Harry Dunn's family can bring claim in US against alleged killer and her husband, judge rules
... A judge's ruling in the Alexandria district court in Virginia has taken the Dunn family a step closer to a legal showdown with suspect Anne Sacoolas, 18 months on from the 19-year-old's death....
The US Government asserted diplomatic immunity on behalf of 43-year-old Sacoolas following the road crash which killed Mr Dunn outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire in August 2019.
She was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, but an extradition request submitted by the Home Office was rejected by the US State Department in January last year.
On Wednesday, Judge Thomas Ellis ruled the Dunn family could proceed with their civil claim against both Mr and Mrs Sacoolas - allowing a claim of "vicarious liability" to be brought against the suspect's husband.
The Virginia State law of vicarious liability means Mr Sacoolas could be liable for the teenager's death by allowing his wife to use the car which killed him....
"The Sacoolases and their insurers, the United Services Automobile Association (USAA), have sought to deny Harry's family justice at absolutely every turn along the way....
Judge Ellis allowed the case to remain in the US and dismissed Sacoolas's application against the substantive civil claim, citing her "refusal" to return to the UK.
Handing his judgement down last month, the judge said: "While it is commendable that defendant Anne Sacoolas admits that she was negligent and that her negligence caused Harry Dunn's death, this does not equate acceptance of responsibility.
"Full acceptance of responsibility entails facing those harmed by her negligence and taking responsibility for her acts where they occurred, in the United Kingdom." ...

Senior United States District Judge T. S. Ellis III was appointed by Ronald Reagan. He has presided over the plea bargain and sentencing of John Walker Lindh, the "American Taliban", espionage cases, terrorism cases, the conviction and sentencing of Paul Manafort and other corruption cases.

I don't take either Uber or Lyft, but I'm now feeling sorry for Lyft if that's now her new drunk ride of choice.
The lady is quite insane and needs to be incarcerated for public safety.
She sort of reminds me of a bitch I used to work with, though.

I've never been a big Uber user, but have been very satisfied with the times I have. I used the app. Haven't used it since covid, though, of course. But I'm not sure the Uber parade of horrible stories like this one are really any different or worse than what cabbies have put up with for years.

Um dunno if that's all true. People seem to be behaving exponentially stupid these days. The availability of ride share and of course cameras have certainly created more opportunities to document the crazy but I'd bet the incident rate is way up.O Really wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 1:01 pmI've never been a big Uber user, but have been very satisfied with the times I have. Ha! Speaking of rideshare, bet Johnny Damon sure wishes he would've taken one. He's hammered.

True that, but cabbies do live a dangerous life, some say as high as #17 most dangerous in terms of fatalities. From USA Today:
In addition to the inherent risks of collisions on the roadway, taxi drivers also need to worry about potential altercations with their clients — who in most cases are complete strangers. Some 43.3% of workplace deaths for full-time taxi drivers and chauffeurs in 2016 were attributable to violence at the hands of another individual.

Johnny Damon tells officer 'I am Blue Lives Matter' in bodycam footage of DUI arrest
Whiner, typical Trumpette.Footage from a police officers' body camera in Windermere, Florida, shows Johnny Damon attempting to talk his way out of an arrest and his wife fighting with an officer the night he was charged with a DUI.
Damon is heard on the video telling the officer he is a "good f***ing guy" and that "Blue Lives Matter." His wife, Michelle Mangan-Damon, is repeatedly heard telling them to look at their license plate showing the Blue Lives Matter symbol. Damon later tells the officer he's being targeted for supporting former President Donald Trump.
Damon, the two-time World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox, is charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest. A Windermere police officer began following Damon's black Lincoln SUV around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 and said in the report and video he was driving erratically, hit a curb and drove past a stop sign line.
Mangan-Damon was also arrested and charged with resisting an officer with violence and battery of a law enforcement officer....Damon: Because we saw you following us and we were like, OK —
Officer: Yeah, it's a traffic stop. You don't get out of the car in a traffic stop.
Damon: What traffic stop?
Officer: Do you see the police lights?
Damon: Yeah. It just happened right here.

Liar, typical Trumpette.... The officer calls for backup and asks Damon how much he's had to drink. He said "a little bit" with his finger pinching his thumb.
Claiming privilege, typical Trumpette. The video shows Mangan-Damon begin hand fighting with the officer. Damon also gets involved and the body camera comes off of the officer and falls to the ground.
"I am Blue Lives Matter," Damon is heard saying on the video....
“This is bulls***,” Mangan-Damon said. “Look at our license plate. We have Blue Lives Matter. Like, this is crazy. What’s going on right now?”
"Guys, we are all for cops," Damon is heard saying.
45SHOLE can't pardon you now, dummy.... Both Damon and Mangan-Damon asked a variation of "what are you doing right now" multiple times. He tells the officer "we're good people" and mentions people are "targeting me because I'm a [Donald] Trump supporter."
He is heard telling the police offer twice his wife is "crazy."

Wow.... Damon struggled to keep still and walk in a straight line, per the Orlando Sentinel. His blood alcohol level was measured between .294 and .300, per the police report.
Privilege?A resisting arrest charge was dropped against Damon, per the Sentinel, and both have bonded out of jail.
