Yeah, I'd hate to give up Publix if I was still in Florida. But I might. I'd say it would depend on whether the alternatives are equally guilty. I'm guessing that while Publix got caught because of the heiress daughter, that if you look into Albertson's, Kroger, Harris-Teeter, etc., you might find some objectionable contributions, too.

Publix is very Repug-heavy. I've rarely gone there, mostly because it's inconvenient here.O Really wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 12:32 pmYeah, I'd hate to give up Publix if I was still in Florida. I occasionally shop at Harris-Teeter for items I can't get at the Co-op or Aldi. It's more mixed than Publix, but still leans red.

Maybe I'll make Ingles my tertiary grocery, instead.

Kroger is a politically so-so option, and further away.Food Stores
National, regional and local supermarkets are the donors in this category..

Would that be the Ingle's that doesn't bother to enforce mask requirements?

Is that national policy?
Tbh, I'm not seeing mask requirements or social distancing being actively enforced anywhere, even the Co-op. There usually is passive signage and fortunately the vast majority of patrons are compliant.

I have a choice of Food City, which is a blatant Nazi front for laundering money, and would stoop so far as to sell trump wine and or steaks.....or the Wal Mart food store closest to me, which is a pseudo capitalist front organization that pays its worker so little they have to rely on socialism. I never know which way to turn.

I dunno about national policy, but obviously their national policy isn't "all stores must require and enforce mask wearing by staff and customers."
But here, it really helped early on last year - maybe even before the statewide mandate- when Walmart required and enforced masks. Have to say nice things about them when they're true, and Walmart was a leader. Pretty much gave the anti-maskers nowhere else to go. I haven't seen a bare face in a grocery in months. Closest was some guy who would pull down his mask until somebody came in his direction and then he'd put it up. I managed to walk casually toward him about 3 times, just to be a dick about it.
Speaking of food, we're having Poke Bowl tonight, and hand-rolled sushi. Never gotten any sushi anywhere else that had so much salmon/tuna stuffed in it.

Tuna martinis are big around here. Mostly tuna and avocado with sesame oil and roasted sesame seeds for garnish.
This recipe is similar to the 1st one I tried, but is light on the tuna.
What variety of tuna do you get in your locale?
Still, nothing beats picking the meat off the backbone while 5 miles out.

Bluefin, just off coast; yellowfin south coast to Baja, albacore offshore. There are over a hundred fishing charters between San Diego and Huntington Beach that go for tuna, all bluefin. We get ours from the fishmonger at the harbour. Which reminds me - we were there last week and they had some "Tasmanian Trout" https://www.inlandseafood.com/seapedia/ ... cean-trout I'd never heard of it. Looks similar in color to salmon, supposedly a cross between steelhead and rainbow. If they have it next time I think we'll try it. You ever heard of it?

Doesn't look like anything that comes from the gulf.
I had a Mahi Mahi taco from the local taco truck yesterday. It's not amazing at all that it sells so much better since they stopped calling it by its name - dolphin, or bull dolphin.
They are a hoot to catch. I've only encountered a school of them once. They swim at the surface and will hit anything, even a bare hook. I bet we caught a hundred before they out ran us. I was on a party boat with about 15 people. I got 6.
One of these days I'm going to get one of y'all to show me how to post pictures from my phone. No problem from my computer that I rarely use, but no dice with the phone.

More illegal seafood:
Good thing that some eco-criminals are too stupid to obey traffic laws. They were stopped for speeding in the Keys. Then police smelled something fishy
Two commercial fisherman from the mainland were jailed Thursday after police said they were caught in the Keys with a haul of illegal seafood that started with 100 undersized wrung lobster tails.
Their catch also included 17 undersized stone crab claws, four undersized whole lobsters and one undersized mutton snapper, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Osvaldo Hernandez, 65, listed as a seafood business owner in Fort Lauderdale, and Vladimir Medina Martin, 43, of Miami, were each arrested on a felony charge of taking 100 or more undersized lobsters.
“Anything over 100 is a felony,” said FWC Officer Bobby Dube. “It’s a great bust. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen numbers like that.”
Hernandez and Medina Martin were taken to the county jail on Stock Island.
On Friday, Hernandez remained in jail on a $30,000 bond while Medina Martin was locked up on a $75,000 bond, according to jail records.
At about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a white commercial van at mile marker 37 on U.S. 1 near Bahia Honda State Park for speeding, following too closely and failure to yield the right of way....

Many times criminals would have never gotten caught except for their choice of car or driving habit. I always thought if I wanted to smuggle drugs or whatever, I'd drive I-95 in a Volvo with a kid seat and a Disney sticker on the back. Drive a little over the limit, mostly in the right lane. Don't wear a flat bill hat sideways. Totally invisible.

Your RV or a rented one is an even better choice. The probable cause needed to search your residence is greater . . . or so I've been told.O Really wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 6:47 pmMany times criminals would have never gotten caught except for their choice of car or driving habit. Re: The Food Thread
Good idea, theoretically - I don't think I've ever seen an RV pulled over. So maybe if you aren't going too far, or you're only making one or two runs, it might work, but there are some practical issues. I don't know about what would be probable cause to search an RV, other than being Black, of course, but at the California agriculture stops, they'll waive most cars through and browse through a lot of RV's. Gotta catch that citrus smuggling. Using a smaller Class C, or a B would probably work, though.Vrede too wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 7:59 pmYour RV or a rented one is an even better choice. I believe an RV is considered personal property (it's definitely not real property) and I'd guess it'd be subject to any search laws that an auto would.

Yeah, there are some differences. But I don't think any of them would change the alleged probable cause if they stopped you.

Re: The Food Thread
My bad.
Do Police Need a Warrant to Search My Motorhome?
Generally, home searches require warrants but car searches don't. So what's the rule for an RV?
... The U.S. Supreme Court answered this question in California v. Carney, 471 U.S. 386 (1985)....
The Supreme Court acknowledged that a motorhome was capable of functioning as a home, but nevertheless sided with the state. For the relevant purposes, the Court found that a motorhome is more similar to a car than a stationary house. The Court explained that, like with a car, a motorhome’s “ready mobility” makes it impractical for police to get a warrant before searching. And, according to the Court, a person doesn’t have the same compelling privacy interest in a motorhome that they would have in a regular home. These factors convinced the Court that the automobile exception should apply to motorhomes. The take away is that police need probable cause—but no warrant—to search a motorhome.
That brings us back to what type of vehicle you think is less likely to be searched, whether an RV or not. Idk whether "a Volvo with a kid seat and a Disney sticker on the back" might be a little too cliched to escape attention.Motor vehicle exception
... The US Supreme Court in California v. Carney found the motor vehicle exception to apply to a motor home. The court, however, made a distinction between readily-mobile motor homes and parked mobile homes. A number of factors, including the home being elevated on blocks, the vehicle being licensed, and its connection to utilities determine if the motor vehicle exception applies....

Re: The Food Thread
Cops don't mind living by cliches - otherwise there wouldn't be stops for driving while Mexican. I've seen a lot of scruffy-looking Black or Mexican-driven cars stopped by cops; I've seen a lot of fast-looking beasts stopped, also. I don't know that i've ever seen the aforementioned cliched Volvo stopped. But it doesn't have to be a Volvo - my real point is I've always wondered why drug runners seem so frequently to choose cars that look like they belong to drug runners.
