The car thread ...

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Then of course there was The Blue Ghost, a 1966 Impala.

Can anyone name the TV show?

 Sweet. Those old Mercury cars were really cool. You'll have to post a pic of it once it's about done.

It was in a box labeled "f***ing (neoplacebo's) crap" that I bought at a yard sale. I figure the seller was an ex.
I'm disappointed that the blowup doll is too worn out to repair. :o
I like the stash that you must have forgotten about in the trunk of the model Camaro. The "Visit Acapulco" bumper sticker is a nice touch. 8-)
I can't believe that this was once your home stereo :P :

 Ah, well, sorry about the condition of the blow up doll but glad you enjoyed the lost stash.....possibly the only time I've ever abused drugs (by losing them) but we all know there's a lot of wreckage in the fast lane these days. I figure that I've left a rather impressive load of flotsam and jetsam in my horrendous wake. "Damn the torpedoes; full speed ahead." "Fifty four forty or fight." "Fuck the Pope." "Defund the Bund."

So every year from April through September, Friday nights in Escondido is "Cruising Grand" where hundreds of hotrods, restorations, customs, and rats cruise Grand Avenue (Escondido's main street). This week will be the first one of the year, and since it was involuntarily lamed last year, it should be pretty big. Cars are already out cruising along the beach boulevard and hanging out in parks. Totally cool.

I never knew this:

Items Hanging From Rearview Mirrors Are Illegal in Virginia
Minnesota prohibits dangling items like air fresheners from rearview mirrors, which Daunte Wright's family says was a factor in the traffic stop that killed him

... Laws about whether items can be hung from a rearview mirror vary from state to state.

Most states, including California and Pennsylvania, prohibit drivers from hanging things near the windshield that "materially obstruct" their vision. Some states don't bar drivers from hanging things from the rearview mirror if they don't block the driver's vision....
Translation: Legal if you're White.

Hmmm, I've usually had something decorative hanging from my rearview mirror, currently an origami dove. Idk whether I'll keep being a scofflaw or not. This "obstructed vision" thing is :bs: . The only things I've ever run over are air fresheners and fuzzy dice.

I've never cared for stuff hanging from the mirror and always found it distracting/annoying. But speaking only for our little corner of a big state, there would appear to be zip enforcement against stuff hanging, although I suppose if it was big enough, maybe....

I think I'll craft a likeness of trump and hang it from my mirror. His face will be blue instead of orange, though.

Never heard of this. Never seen it on a driver's license test, not on any road signs.
Yep, this law is for black people and anyone a cop is curious about, but doesn't have "cause" to stop.

Makes me wonder - just how many of these secret laws are out there.

What about my bridge pass windshield sticker and my Auburn sticker?

Parked beside one of these beasts the other day. Nice car, but it looks like $80k worth of inconvenience. They had to pull out of the space and block traffic in the lot while they loaded the kids. Model X.

If you're Black the Auburn sticker is illegal in Birmingham, AL, Eugene, OR, Florida or any other SEC state.

Does the Pentagon use any type of window sticker for entry or parking?

A lot of them probably live in Virginia.

I don't think stickers down in the corner of the glass would be prohibited. Also, toll scan stickers are supposed to be behind the mirror, not blocking view. It's probably just to give the cops another excuse to stop somebody arbitrarily.

Exactly.
I see trump and huge American flag stickers completely covering rear windows.
Maybe it's not illegal here, or not.

Handicap parking signs meant to be hung while parking are left hanging from the rearview mirror.

I've been thinking about dragging some heavy steel chains from the back of my car to make sparks. The reason I've not done so isn't because it's illegal; I just don't drive at night, and besides, as the driver I would not be able to appreciate the noise and sparks action back there. And I sort of imagine myself a hero by chain tripping a robber running from a store as I approach him from behind at good speed and make a sudden sharp turn and stop maneuver that makes the chains come whipping around and tripping the poor bastard. Front page stuff.

Florida has laws against window tints past a certain percent, but you wouldn't know it by driving around.

Pretext laws are fun. We also have a law against noise that was enforced until motorcycles became big with the military class.
