Thanks. I take special pride in being not just a one percenter but actually only one fourth of a one percenter. I did the same thing back in the late 60's and early 70's with bell bottom blue jeans. I didn't wear them until forced to by the US Navy. As far as I know the navy still persists in this grotesque ancient choice of attire. They try to rationalize it by saying you can use your pants as an emergency flotation device but this is just lame bullshit that only works for a few minutes until the pants become saturated. Naval mythology right up there with Neptune.

405 people have been charged in the Capitol insurrection so far. This searchable table shows them all.

12 from NC and 5 from MT. However, there are a bunch of people where the state box is either blank or "N/A". I don't recognize any of the names, not that I thought I might.

No mention of bell bottoms there for sure; but the video shows basically what they taught us except at that time we all wore the bell bottom pants. As far as I know, they still do. Personally I'd rather have a couple of nice 4mil plastic trash bags than a whole warehouse of pants.

I believe that USAF is still the most right-wing service. Idk if it's also the most wingnutty.
O Really?
Don't know about the Air Force but it makes sense that the new "Space Force" may be the most right wing. I recently got in touch with a guy I served with on USS Kilauea (AE-26). He's from TX but now lives in OK. He's a trumper and I've not heard from him since I told him that I think trump should be in jail. So that's at least one Navy guy who's gone over the high side. And then we've got tough guy Eddie Gallagher, Navy SEAL who murdered an unarmed Afghan teenager and was turned in by his own guys and then got pardoned by trump. But then again we've got Navy guy Kelly, the astronaut, who is a new Democratic US Senator in AZ. Plus Admiral McRaven......I think there's a few nutjobs spread around in all the military branches. That's how they roll.
Mormons and other white supremacists love the AF.

I don't know anything about the Air Force. My little section of it was long ago in a galaxy far away and not part of the "real" Air Force. And I don't know anybody who has been in recently, like in the past 3 decades. But I would think the most right wing bunch would be the Marines.
I thought that maybe you'd kept up.

My impressions of the USAF are based on a few scandals, Christian con activities and the AF Academy reputation, but I could be wrong.
PBS: 1/6 of the arrested Capitol traitors are ex-military and a handful of current military. Of these, 1/2 were Marines despite its being the smallest service. This suggests that O Really is correct, or possibly that it's an enlisted/officer thing with the enlisted Marines being more right-wing.

First conviction I've heard of:
Hoosier Oath Keeper involved in Capitol riot pleads guilty to federal charges

The United State Department of Justice (DOJ) reported Friday that Columbus resident Jon Schaffer pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the Capitol riots on January 6.

DOJ said Schaffer, 53, admitted Friday that he breached the Capitol wearing a tactical vest and armed with bear repellent.

He pleaded guilty to unlawfully entering the U.S. Capitol to obstruct Congress’ certification of the U.S. presidential election results.

“Oath Keepers member Jon Schaffer has pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, including for breaching the Capitol while wearing a tactical vest and armed with bear spray, with the intent to interfere with Congress’ certification of the Electoral College results,” said Acting Deputy Attorney General John P. Carlin.

According to his plea agreement, Schaffer admitted to being a founding lifetime member of the Oath Keepers, “a large but loosely organized collection of individuals, some of whom are associated with militias,” according to DOJ....

Schaffer pleaded guilty to obstruction of an official proceeding and entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon.

With the combined charges, Schaffer faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

I can't see why there is a controversy over this man's death. Does DC have an incompetent medical examiner, coroner, forensics experts? I don't get it. This should not be any sort of mystery but it apparently is. I expect my death certificate will show I died of either too much fun, too long a time of having fun, broken heart, or suicide.
I didn't see this coming. Maybe 1 or more of your first 3 contributed to Sicknick's death.
Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick Died Of Natural Causes, Medical Examiner Rules

... Sicknick died after suffering strokes, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Francisco Diaz, said in a report. In an interview, Diaz told The Washington Post, which first reported on the determination, that Sicknick suffered two strokes.

Sicknick, 42, was sprayed with a chemical substance outside the Capitol at around 2:20 p.m. ET on Jan. 6, the report said.

He did not suffer an allergic reaction to the chemical irritants dispensed by rioters, Diaz told the Post, nor was there evidence of internal or external injuries.

At approximately 10 p.m., Sicknick collapsed at the Capitol and was transported to a local hospital. He died nearly 24 hours later....

In a statement, the U.S. Capitol Police said it accepts the medical examiner's finding. "This does not change the fact Officer Sicknick died in the line of duty, courageously defending Congress and the Capitol," the statement said....
Could be that the day's stress was a factor. RIP. Assault charges are still likely.

Bell bottom pants...

When they became popular I was as starving college student, and a bicycle was my main transportation. Bell bottoms and bicycles don't mix. Yes, you can use clips and bands to keep the bell bottoms at bay, but it's a LOT of material to get under control.

I resisted getting any bell bottoms until some went on sale. Yeech.

However I suppose if one were to manufacture bell bottom pants out of waterproof material (like tent fabric) they might work as flotation devices. Then the concern is that with all the air at the bottoms, you'd wind up floating upside down, and drown anyway.

No, you take the pants off, tie the bottoms of the legs shut, and then float. The Navy uses a shit load of starch; pants that are relatively new will stand up alone with no sailor in them. Maybe the starch turns into some glutenous waterproof mass once it's saturated with salt water. I never jumped overboard; they always managed to restrain me. Besides, I'd wear my dress uniform if I went over the side by choice.

Number of Capitol riot arrests of military, law enforcement and government personnel rises to 52

... The arrests include over half a dozen ex-police officers and multiple former elected officials -- and represent some of the most significant and violent charges brought in connection with the deadly insurrection....

According to a report from Georgetown's Project on Extremism, military individuals who participated in the attack on the Capitol were about four times more likely to be involved in domestic extremist organizations, such as the Proud Boys or Oath Keepers, which are now being probed by the Justice Department over their alleged role in helping plan and carry out the assault on the Capitol. The Georgetown group identified 43 alleged Capitol rioters as having military backgrounds, and said that more than a third of them were affiliated with violent extremist organizations....

Federico Klein, who prosecutors allege was a "violent and enthusiastic" participant in the riot, was an active Trump administration appointee with a top security clearance at the time authorities say he attacked police officers on Jan. 6. He remained in his post for nearly two weeks after the attack before he resigned....

Three individuals charged in connection with the attack are still on active duty in the Army Reserve or National Guard, Army officials confirmed to ABC News. They include Fracker, the former Virginia police officer, who is a corporal in the Virginia National Guard, the Army said.

Fracker, charged with unlawful entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Accused participant Timothy Hale-Cusanelli is a U.S. Army Reserve Sergeant who serves as a Human Resources Specialist. He was charged with multiple offenses, including violent entry and obstructing a law enforcement officer, and pleaded not guilty.

For many of those facing charges, a background in government service has proven to be unhelpful. In determining whether or not to detain Federico Klein, the Trump administration appointee, Judge Zia Faruqui pointed to Klein's military service and State Department employment as factors supporting detention.

Klein had "sworn [an] oath to protect the Constitution," but instead "switched sides" and joined the riot, Faruqui said.

"He should have known better," said the judge, before ordering him to be detained.
100 more people to be charged over Capitol riots, federal prosecutors warn

... “The investigation and prosecution of the Capitol attack will likely be one of the largest in American history, both in terms of the number of defendants prosecuted and the nature and volume of the evidence,” prosecutors wrote in district court filings on Thursday.

More than 400 people face charges, and “the government expects that at least [100] additional individuals will be charged”, they said.

“While most of the cases have been brought against individual defendants, the government is also investigating conspiratorial activity” following investigations relying on more than 900 search warrants in nearly every state and Washington DC, more than 15,000 hours of surveillance footage, information obtained from 1,600 electronic devices, and more than 210,000 tips, including video and photos pulled from social media, prosecutors said.

Law enforcement also obtained “80,000 reports and 93,000 attachments” related to suspect and witness interviews, they wrote....

Federal law enforcement has charged roughly 40 alleged members of far-right groups including the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers militia with conspiracy.

Last week, a member of the Oath Keepers was the first person to plead guilty for their role in the riot.

More idiots busted themselves:
A Texas couple who deleted Facebook posts bragging about being at the Capitol riot was arrested for assaulting police officers, FBI says

... In a criminal complaint, the Federal Bureau of Investigations said Mark and Jalise Middleton of Forestburg were captured on footage from body cameras worn by police that showed them assaulting two Metropolitan Police Department officers who were guarding the Capitol....

One man wearing a Trump beanie, later identified as Mark Middleton, 51, pushes against the officers and the barricade with his body. When officers repeatedly instructed Middleton to get back, he yelled "f— you!" and continued to push. At one point, he grabs one of the officers and attempts to pull him forward.

Beside Mark, a woman wearing a Trump 2020 beanie, later identified as Jalise Middleton, 50, also grabbed at the officer with her hands, the complaint said. When another officer stepped in, Jalise Middleton struck him too.

The Middletons continued to strike the officers and jab flagpoles at their faces until one officer deployed a chemical spray, forcing them to retreat.

Image
Blue lives don't matter.
After receiving a tip, the FBI examined photos and videos the Middletons had shared on Facebook.

"We are on the front lines. We helped push down the barriers. Jalise and I got pepper sprayed, clubbed, and tear gassed. We had to retreat, but more patriots pushed forward, and they're taking back our house," Mark Middleton said in a video shared to his personal account, the complaint said.

"Do not believe the news media, we're not rioters or mobs," he said in a separate comment. "We've been the ones supporting the police, backing the police, but this is how we're being treated?"
Whiny, perpetual victim liar, typical Trumpette.
Jalise Middleton made incriminating posts on her Facebook page too.

"We fought the cops to get in the Capital and got pepper sprayed and beat but by gosh the patriots got in!" she said. When someone asked why they fought the cops, she replied: "To get in the Capital to send them bastards a clear message that this won't be tolerated."

The complaint said Jalise Middleton deleted the above post days after making them.
Coward.
Facebook has said it was preserving data related to the Capitol siege in order to aid law enforcement.
Opps.
To date, at least 439 people have been arrested in the Capitol insurrection.

Traitors' mommies are morons, too:
Grandma gossip helped lead FBI to Capitol riot suspect, officials say

... More than a week after the siege led by supporters of former President Donald Trump, the mother of Robert Lee Petrosh told a friend that her son had participated in the mob that stormed into the Capitol, authorities said. That friend then told her grandson, who informed the FBI about his alleged role, according to the document....

Petrosh, 51, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, turned himself in earlier this week....
Other illiterate traitors busted themselves:
Georgia man accused of storming Capitol shared ‘post victory’ photo online, FBI says

... The FBI says Glen Mitchell Simon, 30, shared a “post victory picture” from the steps of the U.S. Capitol after he and throngs of other rioters stormed the building as Congress worked to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Simon was arrested Wednesday in Gainesville, about 55 miles northeast of Atlanta, and charged with “knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority,” documents from the Justice Department show.

He’s also accused of “violent entry and disorderly conduct on capitol grounds.”

... Simon concluded his post with hashtags “#congressranawayscared “ and “#theythoughtwewouldent.”
"wouldent" :lol:
A video posted to Facebook also showed Simon standing inside the Capitol building and saying “we weren’t invited, we broke in here,” according to the FBI....

"Defenders" of America busting themselves:
National Guard member's arrest marks fourth service member charged in Capitol riot

Authorities arrested a member of the Wisconsin National Guard on Monday in connection to his participation in the January 6 Capitol insurrection, marking the fourth service member to be charged in the deadly pro-Trump riot.

Abram Markofski, a private first-class, and his friend, Brandon Nelson, were arrested in Wisconsin on Monday and charged with four counts, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds and violent entry or disorderly conduct, according to the Justice Department....

He joins three other service members - two Army Reserve soldiers and a Virginia National Guard soldier - who also face federal charges over their role in the Capitol attack.

At least 41 military veterans have also been charged in the riot, according to the Washington Post. The initial overrepresentation of active and former service members among those charged in the Capitol riot has prompted a national conversation about extremism in the military, prompting Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to order a "stand-down" in February to discuss extremism within the organization's ranks....

Investigators found photographic evidence of both men inside the building during the riot, court documents said. Markofski's cellphone GPS data also appeared to place him in areas that are "at least partially within the US Capitol Building" during the riot....
NC moron:
NC man charged in Capitol riot played hide-and-seek with feds until he gave himself up

On his LinkedIn professional networking page, Brad Bennett offered coaching in several personal-improvement classes, including: “How to Think & Act like a truly Free Person.”

This spring, the Huntersville resident did not follow his own guidance. Instead, according to federal prosecutors, Bennett thought and acted like a man on the run from the FBI.

Which he was.

... He now faces six charges — a felony and five misdemeanors — all tied to the Jan. 6 violence. That day, hundreds of supporters of former President Donald Trump, fueled by baseless claims of a stolen election, stormed the Capitol to stop congressional certification of Trump’s defeat to now-President Joe Biden. To date, more than 400 arrests have been made.

Bennett’s most serious charge — obstructing a government proceeding — carries up to a 20-year sentence. If convicted, according to court documents, he faces at least 3 1/2 years in prison.

In an email to the (Charlotte) Observer this week, Bennett’s attorney, Albert Watkins of St. Louis, said his client, like many others, was swept up in Trump’s lies about widespread voting fraud. A court filing this week indicates that Bennett may argue at his trial that he was only following Trump’s orders when he breached the Capitol....

“FAIR WARNING,” Bennett said in a new caption for his Facebook profile photograph posted in the days leading up to the D.C. rally, according to documents. “IF THIS ELECTION IS STOLEN FOR BIDEN ... PATRIOTS WILL GO TO WAR.”

On Jan. 6, video and photographs from Bennett’s own social media pages place him and his then-girlfriend and current co-defendant, Elizabeth Williams of Kerrville, Texas, at various locations inside the Capitol, including the Senate chamber.

Prosecutors say Bennett climbed some scaffolding to get inside the building. According to court filings, he and Williams left after about 10 minutes.

“TODAY WAS A REVOLUTIONARY MESSAGE,” Bennett boasted afterward online. “WE WON’T GO AWAY. WE WILL FIND VICTORY.”

Did ex-NC judge help ignite ‘human bomb’ at Capitol? Critics say he should be punished

Any victory for Bennett and like-minded Trump supporters was short-lived. The House and Senate reconvened that night to certify Biden’s win....
