Probably so. I never liked metal or booze myself....Bungalow Bill wrote:I think I stopped listening to metal when I switched from booze to weed.

Cool. I once saw The Allman Brothers Band (with both brothers) second billed to Goose Creek Symphony in Johnson City, TN. It was probably early or mid 1970 or so. Wish I had been able to see their shows (Allman Brothers) at the Fillmore East; these were later than the show I saw, but are even now considered to be the best live recording ever made for a rock band.Vrede wrote:1976, drove 2500 miles round trip in a crowded Renault.

I thought you were a youngster and I have no idea what marimucil is, but I remember Euell Gibbons and once watched janis joplin drink almost 2 quarts of liquor during her set at the 1969 new orleans pop festival - which wasn't anywhere close to NOVrede wrote:Ain't we the bunch of really old hippies chatting?
Anybody got a good recipe for MariMucil?

Unless you were in diapers for that Allman Joys concert, I guess I am.![]()
and I have no idea what marimucil is,
A pot-Metamucil blend - keeps you regular, and you don't care so much when you aren't.
but I remember Euell Gibbons
He was a rocker, too?![]()

Yikes.

Good, or too drunk?
- which wasn't anywhere close to NO

I liked metal back in the 70s, Deep Purple. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin. After that I lost
interest.
But dental floss still isn't very cool.
I didn't see the Allman Brothers until '79. I was a student and bought one ticket for
myself and a few others for some non-students who wanted to see the show. They
had some good dope which we smoked during the show. There was a curfew and
everybody was hoping they would keep playing beyond it, but they didn't. Whatever.

Hell yeah.
I love me some Black Sabbath. High quality doom-metal:
Unlike most of that bullshit they play on 93.3 the planet. Ugh.

I never realized that was Tina on the background vocals, though when you listen
now, it sounds like her. I remember listening to that song on a radio station that
usually just played Top 40 stuff, but for some reason they would play that one
every once in a while.
I didn't listen to too much Black Sabbath after the early 1970s, long before Dio
was in. Vol. 4 was the last album I bought. And then it was on to other stuff.
Those first four albums do hold up pretty well.

Metallica with a head banging version of the old
Thin Lizzy hit, Whiskey in the Jar-o. Most
excellent.

That's a good version too, though more of a traditional one. Metallica is covering
the rock Thin Lizzy version. As with many old folk tunes, the lyrics can vary a bit
from one version to another.

Yes, those lyrics can vary. One of my favorites is the Sublime tune that uses only the first line of the Gershwin classic, "Summertime, and the livin' is easy." OK, not an old folk tune.
Charm City Devils do a great "Man of Constant Sorrow," though my mother would think it pure heresy.
