The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Cool. I didn't know Donovan was still alive. My favorite of his was "Barabajagal."

Speaking of surprisingly still very alive:

At 95, Dick Van Dyke is still the consummate showman. And he's desperate to get back onstage.

Fascinating:

White supremacists attacked Johnny Cash for marrying a 'Negro' woman - but was his first wife Black?

Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young "Deja Vu" box set coming out 51 years later. Lots of outtakes and never released versions of many songs.

Remember the much reviled Rebecca Black from the Friday video infamy?

10 years later:

The lyrics are probably garbage to be honest.

Basically what's happened the last 5 years or so is this new genre has been flourishing. For some reason a lot of teenagers in Russia have caught on to 90s Memphis underground horrorcore rap and have been remixing it into "phonk". The result is really good IMO and I've been hooked. So for whatever reason youve got all these young dudes in Russia remixing this shit and making phonk tracks and it's usually really good. They prob don't even know what the lyrics are saying because of the thick accents and lack of documentation for underground Memphis rap.

I hear the same old Memphis rap songs used as samples but in entirely different ways, and everytime it sounds unique.

Yeah, it's not for me. Here's some more Russians who chose another genre, speak better English, and probably have a better looking lead singer.
