The Food Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Beer is good.

I always use one of the package mixes like Zatarain’s and add cayenne pepper and more garlic.

In a proper boil (a 30 lb sack of live crawfish) I add to the Zatarain's a jar each of black pepper corns, ground cayenne pepper, thyme, oregano and bay leaves along with 10 pounds of potatoes and a dozen or two ears of corn.

Friend of mine from Louisiana had flown in live ones for parties, did the entire crawfish boil with corn, onion and potatoes.

The secret is in the sauce. Combine Dukes Mayonnaise and Garlic Power Sauce. She claimed authentic, all I know is it was good.

Both available on Amazon but I'd seen them locally. They used to sell the Garlic Power at Firehouse Subs.
Thanks!!! I'll let you know. It'll probably be awhile until I need to shop again.

I won't be getting live ones, but how do you purge in salt water? Boil (how long?), then drain and add all the stuff with fresh water?
DON’T WASTE SALT.
The old wives tale of rinsing crawfish in salt water is a waste of your time and salt. Crawfish excrete waste through their gills, and this takes time. A short rinse is great for cleaning existing waste, but the salt will not cause them to purge themselves. So rinse your crawfish well, but save your salt. We recommend submerging the sack in fresh water multiple times until used water is clear. The box they come in is a great tool for this purpose.

You are probably right. I've heard that more than once.
I started doing it because my Cajun neighbors do it, but then most that I know are more the Duck Dynasty type than they are expert on anything - except cooking. Salt is cheap and mine tirn out just fine.

And of course there are as many internet articles that say purge as there are that say soak in fresh water works as well as purging but both only remove exterior mud.

Lady O made an excellent treat today - Irish Soda Bread. Highly recommend it. Plenty of recipes around. Very wheaty, solid consistency, great crust.

It needs some melting butter on top as a final touch but still looks good without it.

He must have been hungry. If I were gonna dine and dash, I'd have prime rib, baked potato with butter, lots of beer, and a nice salad. Then fake a medical emergency and start jerking and shaking on the floor, pulling my knees up in a fetal way and then rapidly back down again, and then suddenly jump up and run out acting as if I were about to puke or die. They'd probably just write it off.

* Authorities said he has "no fixed address," according to FOX 5 DC.

* The 28-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after one officer recognized him from a previous interaction.

* Bevan allegedly dined and dashed at another restaurant in Pentagon City twice in two days.

So we've been enjoying Santa Fe food, that is heavily Mexican influenced, but not the same as you get when you order Mexican other places. For one thing, they're very big on their chiles (not chilis) here. When you order something, they ask if you want red or green chile sauce. Or you can take "Christmas" and get both. Either one takes off a couple of mm off your tongue. Lots of specialty burritos, too.

Good article here on the food:

Kentucky, figures. Ummm, it looks like the yard might be top of the hill private. It also looks like creepy boatgirl_3 (girl???) may have never done a handstand in her life, certainly not recently. Jealous? Ironically, millions more people like us are seeing Bright's "TITS OUT" thanks to boatgirl_3's whining. Thank you, boatgirl_3, really . . . and neoplacebo. ;)

FYI:
Torah Bright

Torah Jane Bright OAM (born 27 December 1986) is an Australian professional snowboarder. She is Australia's most successful Winter Olympian, former Olympic gold and silver medalist, two time X Games gold medalist, three time US Open winner, two time Global Open Champion, three time World Superpipe Champion, former TTR World Champion and recipient of the Best Female Action Sports Athlete at the ESPY awards. In 2014 Bright became the first Olympic athlete (male or female) to qualify for all three snowboarding disciplines; halfpipe, slopestyle and boarder-cross.
Now I'm jealous, of her and her husband.

"Bright is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." Funny, she doesn't look Mormon.

Not required at mealtimes, silly.

Because it appears she has only one kid?

And her husband only has one wife.
I don't think that I've ever seen or even imagined an uber-hot, nearly naked, snowboarding Mormon -0-? . Sounds like the start of a Penthouse letter.

I'm no expert, but I think that someone punked the FDA.

Cicadas are related to shrimp – don't eat them if you have a seafood allergy, FDA warns

Cicadas are insects, shrimp and lobsters are crustaceans. There is no "family relation" and there shouldn't be any cross-allergies.

What do y'all say?

No cicadas here yet :( . I wasn't living here 17 years ago, so I don't know if that's a change. I remember millions of them from my MD tweenhood.

I have a sign and picture of a cicada with a red circle and diagonal line through it; so far I've not seen any of them. I did see this guy promoting them as a food source a week or so ago. I just figured him for a trumper who drank bleach and stuck an ultraviolet light bar up his ass.
