Ex President* Trump

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I came across this quote that headed a chapter in a Hunter Thompson book I was reading today and it immediately reminded me of trump.
"He is a man of splendid abilities, but utterly corrupt. He shines and stinks like rotten mackerel by moonlight." John Randolph 1773-1833
John was an early right wing nutjob, though.....another of his quotes; "I am an aristocrat. I love liberty. I hate equality." He insisted on being called John Randolph of Roanoke and is related to Pocahontas.
Been reading a Jefferson bio. The name Randolph sounds familiar in that context.

Update: there were so many Randolphs that they had to be known by their place of residence. John Randolph of Tazewell Hall was a cousin of Thomas Jefferson and also a Loyalist. He emigrated to England but he and Thomas remained on good terms.

John Randolph of Roanoke, another Jefferson cousin, was a supporter of American independence. However the Jefferson bio is silent about his attitude towards blacks. It does say that he broke with Jefferson in 1806: "Once an ally, always an eccentric, John Randolph of Roanoke broke with Jefferson in March 1806 [Jefferson was President then]." Apparently Randolph felt Jefferson was too moderate and willing to compromise with the Federalists.

Jefferson's mother apparently was a Randolph as well. Although my eyes started to blur trying to figure out all the heredity etc. Suffice to say there were a lot of Randolphs running around Virginia in those days.
Yeah, early American aristocracy was pretty much like the European version; they were all tangentially, or in some cases incestually, related. And some of them were generally receptive to the concepts of equality while others rather enjoyed being, and remaining, members of the elite. Other than the inbreeding, it's much the same today.
Sadly, you may be right.

IDK

I read somewhere the other day trump is going on a fascist road show with Bill O Reilly soon. Better wear a raincoat and boots if you figure to catch one of these spectacles. Probably safe to watch video of them, though.
Some of his Qanon supporters are starting to get woke 🤣.

 trump was recently busted for causing people that donated to his PAC to be hit with recurring identical charges even when they only meant to donate once. They had to refund millions. And these loons "don't think trump would do that?" (sell $3,000 tickets). Reminds me of the old "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." As well as the "you can't fix stupid" adage. These goddamn morons are truly a piece of work.

Just wait until his $3,000 a head fascist rally with Bill O Reilly gets cranked up. Many will later die, Bill will rape several women backstage while trump tells lies. The cult will gush in awe. At the end everybody will be stranded in oppressive heat.

Shit, it might take dynamite to get Nazi stomach boys' attention. Hopefully before concrete failure. The guy could feed a whole tribe of cannibals for six weeks.

Well. trump is resurrecting his fascist pep rally gig starting tonight at some obscure county fair in Ohio. Jim Jordan has already stated he'll be there. There will likely be a lot of mean drunks at this venue as well. It makes me wish I could be there and be tripping on some really high voltage acid and possibly witnessing trump bursting into flames as a stunt gone horribly bad. But being high, I wouldn't know that it was a stunt.

ICYMI during his rally last night in Sarasota, Trump basically admitted to Trump Organization tax violations: “They go after good, hard-working people for not paying taxes on a company car ... I don't even know. Do you have to? Does anybody know the answer to that stuff?”
Ummm, yes, they do. That would be:

Every lowly company accountant in the US
Everybody working in any CPA firm in the US
Everybody working in any payroll department in the US
Most every HR benefits admin people in the US
Everybody who works for HR Block or any other tax prep firm
Everybody who reads much of the directions on their own 1040
Everybody who answers the questions on TurboTax or any other tax prep system
Everybody...

Except apparently Trump, who by his own accord, knows everything about everything.

He'll never even go to court.

I got over a bunch of frustration over the fact that for years there has been yammer about Trump getting indicted, getting charged, getting tossed, yada, yet nothing ever happens. Then I realized the prosecutors must have read:

“When you strike at a king, you must kill him.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

They've got to be solid, and can't afford to whiff. But it looks like they may (finally) be getting closer.

Some investigations were on hold pending the election, the inability to indict a sitting POTUS, and the possibility of the statute of limitations running out on some potential charges. They needed time to gear up - hopefully that's a reason for the slow pace.

Just goes to show that not only does trump not know tax law, he also does not understand the difference between government and private enterprise. Yeah, he loves the poorly educated; hell, he's one of them.
