What are you watching?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

"76 Days"
Documentary on the covid virus in Wuhan. Follows a hospital crew. In Chinese, with subtitles.
May not sound like much, but it was really good - and got very good reviews all around.

Streaming only. I got it on YouTube through Roku.

Three Stooges. Hey Larry, hey Moe....woo woo woo woo. It's a lot like how Mark Meadows and trump carried on during the time between Nov 4 and January 20. Hilarious.

One of my college buddies was from Muscle Shoals Alabama. He was the type who never told a lie, but I was never quite sure what to make of his stories about the recording studios and the musicians he had seen. The more that I saw Muscles Shoals listed on  album credits, the more I began to accept his stories.
Tonight the documentary Muscle Shoals was nothing but enlightening. Not only were the big names there, Muscle Shoals was far more than a recording studio, it was where a entirely new sound was born and everyone wanted in.

It's a great documentary, well worth your time.
It's on DVD and Amazon.

Falcon and Winter Soldier dove head first into racial inequality.

Well done.

Local PBS station (KQED) is showing the 1960 classic: "Inherit the Wind".

It's based on the true story of the Dayton, TN "Scopes Monkey Trial" of a high school teacher (John Scopes) who dares to teach Darwin's theory of evolution in 1925.

In doing some checking, it appears however that the original event was sort of a setup. Earlier the state had passed the Butler bill, which outlawed the teaching of evolution in public schools. However the state also required teachers to use a textbook with a chapter on evolution (!). The ACLU got involved and wanted a test case to toss out the law, and got Scopes to agree to be charged. And of course the religious fundamentalists were all up in arms.

Might be fun, but I'll bet that none of them are physically unattractive or even average. If so, the premise is a cheat.

I watched two shows the other day on east TN PBS. One was about the Stonewall uprising and the other was about the murder of Fred Hampton.

The local PBS station (KQED) has been running re-runs of Ken Burn's Jazz on an alternate channel. I was trying to record them to DVD but the DVD recorder wimped out on that. So I bit the bullet and ordered the whole set from someone on Amazon. Just watched (well, had to pause it bit, it's two hours) the episode about the post-war jazz scene. Really a sad tale about Charlie Parker's death. The coroner estimated he was 60 years old. In fact, he died at 34. Years of horse and then heavy drinking took its toll on him. Still he was one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time.

Just watched the 2nd episode of Loki. I've only moderately held interest in the Marvel movies. The kid grew up on them, so I've been well exposed. Anyway I wasn't looking forward to watching a show about the sniveling a..hole character Loki.
Wrong. So far this has been a more interesting story about a much more interesting character.

It was pretty good. I've seen them all. So far (2 episodes) I think Loki may be the best.

Yeah, I've seen them and really liked them all to date.

Although this one is pretty trippy and I'm not sure how they're going to wrap it up.

Good for them.
