COVIDiots

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The Most Influential Spreader of Coronavirus Misinformation Online

... The entire effort traced back to one person: Joseph Mercola.

Mercola, 67, an osteopathic physician in Cape Coral, Florida, has long been a subject of criticism and government regulatory actions for his promotion of unproven or unapproved treatments. But most recently, he has become the chief spreader of coronavirus misinformation online, according to researchers.

An internet-savvy entrepreneur who employs dozens, Mercola has published more than 600 articles on Facebook that cast doubt on COVID-19 vaccines since the pandemic began, reaching a far larger audience than other vaccine skeptics, an analysis by The New York Times found. His claims have been widely echoed on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

The activity has earned Mercola, a natural health proponent with an Everyman demeanor, the dubious distinction of the top spot in the “Disinformation Dozen,” a list of 12 people responsible for sharing 65% of all anti-vaccine messaging on social media, said the nonprofit Center for Countering Digital Hate. Others on the list include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a longtime anti-vaccine activist; and Erin Elizabeth, founder of the website Health Nut News, who is also Mercola’s girlfriend.

1. Analysis of the online anti-vaccine movement has identified a dozen leading anti-vaxxers who operate businesses or organisations with significant revenues.
2. These twelve are responsible for up to 70 percent of anti-vaccine content shared to Facebook. Three of these twelve - Joseph Mercola, Del Bigtree and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. - are so influential that they account for nearly half of this content....

Of course he's a "Florida Man."

Yeah, there's a volume control in the form of a little speaker icon down on the lower right of my screen. I use it when needed, mostly when you do shit like this. How about next time YOU void the volume on your clever contributions before you post them? That way when you want to listen to them you can use your expertise with the volume control and spare everyone else the trouble. But I guess you'd never think of such a thing.

...
I'm not aware there is any way to alter a Youtube link, or other video link, to lower the playback volume.

As far as I can determine, with considerable testing on my home system, the youtube video playback volume is not included in the youtube link, but rather based on the end-user settings, which in this case would be you, for the last volume setting for youtube that you used.

However, if you know of a way to send a youtube video with a preset volume level, please do share it.

And do have a wonderful day, if that is what you desire.

It's a gfycat mp4 that you posted, not a youtube video.

Youtube or Twitter videos either have a center arrow "play" button or a graphic scale for volume. When I watch one or click on a link to one, it comes up initially with the volume setting at minimum. Don't know if that's a default setting on my machine or not.

Yes, of course, I know all that. What I meant was that I don't know of anyway of making a linked Youtube video come up on someone else's system at a volume I select for them. From the admittedly limited testing I did here, the volume setting is based on what the end-user (in this case, Neoplacebo) had set for the last Youtube video they viewed.

In other words, sorry, I cannot help you via a link. You need to modify the volume setting(s) on your end.

I'm no computer whiz but I imagine if you copy a video and then post it somewhere, unless you turn the volume back down before posting it, the volume will be whatever you had your volume set to when someone else clicks on it.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

When I clicked on the Morrison video, I had to set the volume myself; in its at rest condition the volume level was at zero. I have no way of knowing if you put the level back to zero if or after you may have watched it yourself. Maybe this volume issue is dependent on the platform it appears. Beats me; it's just a pain in the ass to be confronted with blaring whatever when you're not ready for it.
