... Over the weekend, more Sanders fun continued when Texas woman Tobey King, who owns the Etsy store Tobey Time Crochet, placed her crochet doll modeled after Sanders's Inauguration look on eBay. She listed the doll, which became known as the Bernie Mittens Crochet Doll, for $0.99. On Tuesday, after 167 bids, it sold for a whopping $20,300.
... As King wrote in the listing, all proceeds would be donated to Sanders's favorite charity, Meals on Wheels.
Well, would you look at that—memes helping the community! While the original Sanders doll now has a new owner, King is currently selling the crochet pattern for $5 so fans can make their own Bernie dolls at home.
... Sanders said merchandise featuring the image had raised nearly $2m for charities including Meals on Wheels, which brings food to isolated older people....
King, 46, said more than 30,000 people had bought a Sanders doll crochet pattern from her Etsy store, and said she hoped the senator approved....
It seemed likely Sanders would. Last Sunday, Jen Ellis, the Vermont elementary school teacher who made the senator’s mittens from old sweaters and recycled plastic bottles, said he had called “to tell me that the mitten frenzy has already raised an enormous amount of money for Vermont charities … Thank you!! Generosity brings joy.”
She also said she could not possibly fulfill a flood of orders from mitten-smitten Sanders supporters....
Goddamn, if I were Tom Cotton's wife, I sure as hell wouldn't tell anybody. Shit.
FTA:
They could all look like you, for all we know!
I mean, Tom Cotton’s wife kind of does. In that she’s white. We’re very similar. And she does not talk. I looked up every Tom Cotton video that I could find online when I was making the Tom Cotton’s wife video and she never says a word. And I was like, well, I guess I’m her! I’ll be your spokesperson. And that was a lot of fun.
I know that China horribly abuses its ethnic minorities and it's awful, but I'm glad that it's finally allowing Coneheads to represent it in the Olympics:
