Well consider Hoover. He was vastly more qualified than Trump, but is remembered for only one thing - great depression, hoovervilles, soup lines, yada.
Some people, like 45SHOLE, remember Hitler fondly, and 45SHOLE has heirs and an intact political machine to continue the legacy for better or worse.
I don't think so. Trumpville is too much of a personality cult. Nobody else can quite duplicate that, and when they try they look stupid. Trump has a talent of saying/doing something stupid and blowing smoke on the mirrors to make it look wise and reasonable. I think when Trump's gone, the trumpers will turn to somebody else. Maybe somebody worse, though.
True. I didn't necessarily mean an ongoing effective movement (shudder). Rather, I think it possible that Putin's Agent Orange will have a long term cult of positive remembrance, complete with revisionist history.
God in a pole vault competition....I worry about if trump dies there would be somebody even trumpier to take his place and the cult of lies and ignorance would see a groundswell of popularity resulting in sane people fleeing the country en mass.
He no longer has any good points. When he was first elected, he put on a good act of reasonableness/moderation. That didn't last very long. Since that time he has been unimaginably disastrous to the state of Florida.

I see.
Got any suggestions as to where to find out more details about him? I'm interested in an objective point of view.
OK, the Politico article is, what, from four months ago. Not THAT obsolete, although these days I suppose things move faster what with the Delta rearing its ugly corona.
I take a look at your link, after I finish reading the Politico stuff.

Google.

There is no such thing as "an objective point of view" when it comes to politics in America.
All true, even painfully so, but I wonder what the verdict on Trump will be in, say, 50 years, when only his fuckups will be remembered, and not Hillary's.
Well consider Hoover. He was vastly more qualified than Trump, but is remembered for only one thing - great depression, hoovervilles, soup lines, yada.
History is not going to be kind to Cheetohead. Consider the scores of books (some of which he sat down to be interviewed in) seemingly coming out on a monthly basis railing him, with more to come.
For any possible good thing he did (of which I can't think of) there's going to be multiple yeah buts....the insurrection, the effed yup pandemic response, the twice impeached, the subversion of democracy, the election lies, the Lafayette Park disaster....hell, the best thing that can be said about him is he was polarizing.
Eamus Catuli~AC 000000000101010202020303010304 020405....Ahhhh, forget it, it's gonna be a while.
OK, finished the Politico novel on DeSantis, and read through your Canadian link. It's much shorter and as much about Covid as it is about DeSantis. I moved onto Wikipedia for more info, as well.
It has a lot of info, more than I want to know ;-).
I agree that DeSantis may be a contender for president in '24.
I note he has been described as a sort of mechanical robot, with his wife filling in the empathy card. He's probably a force to reckon with, especially if Biden doesn't run again. Not sure who would be the Dem's best choice in '24 other than Biden.
The name Crist came up in the Politico article... how's he doing in Florida these days?

Yeah, that's because DeSantis has presided over a covid debacle that rivals Trump's for sheer evil. Covid is at the root of all Florida issues right now, except for maybe all the dead fish on the beaches due to red tide, which DeSantis is ignoring and hoping nobody will notice.

billy.pilgrim would be the one to ask. I do know that progressives and liberals are not pleased that the former REPUG governor of Florida is a leading alternative to DeSantis.

Yeah, the article you linked didn't seem to judge DeSantis on this much, although I'm sure he is totally to blame.
I have a slightly higher impression of DeSantis than Trump, although that is damning with faint praise. At least he seem to be relatively intelligent. Which in an arch conservative could be evil.
As I recall, Crist was pretty popular as guv, and generally a moderate all round. He damaged himself over-stretching for Senate, and he's been hiding in the House for a few years. But if he won governor's race again he wouldn't be anything like DeSantis, no matter what color hat he wore. What I'm afraid of is that the Dems will run an angry Black lady.

Oh, he didn't directly cause the fish kill, and it happens most every year to one degree or another. But the dead fish are affecting tourist count and sharply dropping tourist money, not to mention making locals sick in the process. And he's not even addressing the issue, not even to assure the communities affected that the state will spend some money to clean the beaches. A decent governor (or decent human) addresses serious issues affecting his/her citizenry, whether or not it's his/her fault.

Well, you can't expect a robot like DeSantis to think of things to make the average Florida citizen's life better. It's just not in his hard-coded programming.

True that, but we're not even talking about the average Florida citizen. We're talking directly affecting the number one industry in the state, and cluttering really wealthy people's back yards with dead fish. Access to Florida beaches isn't like California. Most of the beach isn't accessible at all to the general public. Probably Dick Scott's private beach has dead fish. You'd think DeSantis would at least do a little suck-up there.

Well, from what little I know about the Great Santini, is that he has little to no interest in sucking up to anybody. Which ordinarily would be a plus, except it appears he's replaced it with an extremely self-centered and arrogant world view. Now, who does that remind us of?
