COVIDiots

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I hope that 75 year old Dolly rips Powell a new one, but maybe that's not her style.
May not be her personal style, but I bet she's got lawyers whose style may differ from hers.
You would know better than me, but since it's parody of a song that Dolly had already parodied I would have thought that Powell is legally protected. Otoh, I suspect that some of even that crowd might think different of Powell if the iconic Dolly called her a murderous song-stealing atonal wingnut bitch.

I tend to doubt that Parton would want to pursue a case against the mostly white Powell/Trump cabal for stealing her tune without permission. Especially since it was such a bad version. And it could pass as a parody piece, which I gather could skirt illegality.
When you use ignore you look silly repeating what has just been posted.

That said, I object to your implication that Dolly is afraid of offending white cons. It's never stopped her before.

There's that. But a parody isn't automatically given a free ride just because it's called a "parody." There's consideration of "fair use", purpose, effect on original work, yada. But I'd agree that Dolly could probably handle it better herself by making Powell look more foolish than usual. Nobody doesn't love Dolly.

Like I said (or should have) I'm no lawyer and don't know the fine points of this. Dolly probably will just be noble and ignore it. Like a lot of stuff here is crying out to be ignored.

We've had a few members along the way that I didn't care for. Nascar was a right-wing yahoo, but generally fun to interact with. Partisan was OK, and even the various versions of Mr.B were fine most of the time. But I really couldn't stand Homerfobe. The idea that this guy (whether real or made up) occupied space was unacceptable. Anyway, I don't think I ever announced that I would ignore him - I just put him on the foe list and never interacted with him again. My life improved considerably.
That's pretty much how I feel about (Vrede too).

Never saw Homephobe. Don't really recall the others you mention either.
My GUESS is that O Really's is trying to give you advice, not seeking to create fellowship. We'll see if his point goes sailing over your head.

Anyhow, there's a big difference. O Really didn't put homerfobe on ignore because he was cowering from facts and accountability like you are.

:D Idk if Lindsey's been an anti-vaxxer, but I'll bet that most anti-vaxxer pols, anchors and influencers have been vaccinated.

Commentary: Why are so many Republicans refusing vaccination? Because Russia is telling them to

Would it be out of line to nominate Russia for the Medal of Freedom?

Axios-Ipsos poll: The blame game begins over the Delta coronavirus variant

Image

... Why it matters: The findings expose a surreal gap between the views of the vaccinated and the unvaccinated, showing how tough getting to herd immunity could be — and providing new evidence that mandates could make a difference.

* Vaccinated Americans overwhelmingly blame the unvaccinated as the central problem plus other ancillary factors.

* The unvaccinated aren't so sure who to blame — and are far more likely to buy into conspiracy theories involving the media or President Biden.

What they're saying: "It's purely political at its core," said Cliff Young, president of Ipsos U.S. Public Affairs. "To the unvaccinated, it just reinforces an already existing false belief system."

* "If this had happened 30 or 40 years ago, we wouldn't have the same problem," but "we're in a world that's extremely polarized," Young said.

* "We're dealing with a serious misinformation wall at this point that's clouding facts" for a "recalcitrant group ... The only way to get to them if you're going to get to them is hard policies, hard mandates."

What we're watching: When asked whether they'd take the shots if their employer mandated it, only one in three unvaccinated Americans said yes.

* But that was the highest response among a series of hypothetical incentives that also included getting a raise, bonus or paid time off, or being required to show vaccination in order to attending sporting events or concerts or to board a plane or train....

* And a subtle but potentially significant shift: The most stringent group of unvaccinated Americans — what we've been calling the "hard pass" group — has declined to 15%, down from a share of about one in five that held from February until early June....
No more carrots, sticks sticks sticks.

Just what Alabama needs. I'm expecting rally announcements for Louisiana, Texas and Florida at any time.
President Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America, will deliver remarks at a major rally in Cullman, Alabama, on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 7:00PM CDT.

This rally will be hosted by the Alabama Republican Party and held in conjunction with the Alabama Republican Party’s Summer Meeting. This rally marks President Trump’s further support of the MAGA agenda and accomplishments of President Trump’s Administration.

If you mean why rural Cullman, maybe since it is central to Birmingham and Huntsville. He's not looking for votes yet. He wants adoration and $$$, so why not AL?

If you mean why not wait a couple of weeks, there's only room for one orange star at a time.

Yes, you can. :twisted:
Texas GOP Official Mocked COVID Five Days Before He Died of Virus

A GOP official from Texas who regularly espoused anti-vaccine and anti-mask views online has died from COVID-19, five days after posting a meme on Facebook questioning the wisdom of getting inoculated against COVID.

Dickinson City Council member and State Republican Executive Committee member H. Scott Apley, 45, died in a local hospital around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help Apley’s family with expenses. He was admitted to the facility in Galveston on Sunday with “pneumonia-like symptoms,” and was hooked up to a ventilator as his condition worsened. His wife was also infected, the family said.

“He leaves behind his wife, Melissa, who is COVID positive, as well as their infant son Reid,” according to the fundraiser, which has so far raised almost $15,000 of its $30,000 goal. “Your donations are greatly appreciated and will help the family as they get through this difficult period.”
If Melissa is also an anti-vaxxer RepuQ let her paddle her own canoe. Personal responsibility, right?
“My heart is beyond broken for his family,” Dickinson Mayor Sean Skipworth wrote in a Facebook post. “Scott was a new father and that makes this loss especially tragic.”
He was a bad bad father.
Texas Republican Party Chairman Matt Rinaldi said in a statement, “Please join me in lifting the Apley family up in prayer. We will miss Scott deeply but find comfort knowing he is at peace in the arms of our Savior.” The announcement did not mention the fact that Apley’s death was COVID-related.
Coward, typical RepuQ.
Apley is a staunch conservative and devout Christian. But based on his social media activity, Apley didn’t believe COVID was going to affect him or his family.
Your "Savior" sent you science, asshole.
In May, Apley posted an invitation for a “mask burning” being held at a bar in Cincinnati, commenting, “I wish I lived in the area!” A couple of weeks earlier, he posted a news article about giveaways and incentives meant to encourage people to get vaccinated, writing, “Disgusting.” Apley also railed against so-called vaccine passports, which restrict high-risk activities, such as indoor dining, to the fully vaccinated. Recently, he suggested that mask mandates in Germany were akin to Nazism....

... Apley’s untimely passing comes as COVID skeptics across the country have died or become extraordinarily sick after rejecting the constant calls by public health officials to get vaccinated and mask up. In Nashville, a right-wing radio host who repeatedly spread misinformation about the virus and mocked the vaccine, is now hospitalized as he fights for his life. A Brooklyn woman who called COVID a “fraud” died after rejecting the vaccine in favor of natural supplements like zinc and Vitamin D.

The family of a Florida woman who refused the COVID vaccine and died in June still refuses to get the jab. A Florida track coach who had resisted calls by friends and colleagues to get vaccinated finally agreed to make an appointment for his shots. However, he contracted COVID a day or two before getting his first dose and died in the hospital after slipping into a coma, leaving behind a wife and four children.
Vaccinations are increasing. Factors may include:

Can't deny the Delta crisis;
Private and public mandates;
People seeing friends and family sicken or die;
Some Repug leaders and right-wing media changing their tune.

CNN fires three employees for coming to work unvaccinated

CNN has fired three employees who violated company policy by coming to work unvaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

CNN chief Jeff Zucker told staff members of the firing in a memo sent Thursday that reminded them that vaccines were mandatory if they report to the office or out in the field where they come into contact with other employees.

“Let me be clear — we have a zero tolerance policy on this,” wrote Zucker, chairman of news and sports for WarnerMedia....
What part of "mandatory" confused them?
