Outrageous, sure, but maybe not as much as it would seem. You've got sentencing decisions by two different judges, with the first judge obviously (in retrospect) making a bad one. The second judge, who may or may not have known about the previous days' sentence, made a decision in line with guidelines and prosecution requests. But it's unfortunate one had to be black and one white. I certainly would not argue that race made no difference, but it might not have. If the defendants and judges had been reversed, would white Debbie have gotten jail time from the second judge?
