Texas Governor Greg Abbott's statewide ban on mask mandates has hit its second legal setback, as a judge in Dallas County temporarily blocked it from being enforced amid a nationwide rise in new coronavirus cases.

Texas Judge Says No ICU Beds For Kids: ‘Your Child Will Wait For Another Child To Die'

A Texas judge spelled out the dire COVID-19 situation for young people in the state on Friday, telling a news conference that “in Dallas, we have zero ICU beds left for children.”

“That means if your child’s in a car wreck, if your child has a congenital heart defect or something and needs an ICU bed, or more likely if they have COVID and need an ICU bed, we don’t have one,” said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.

“Your child will wait for another child to die,” he bluntly pointed out.

“Your child will just not get on the ventilator, your child will be CareFlighted to Temple or Oklahoma City or wherever we can find them a bed,” Jenkins added. “But they won’t be getting one here unless one clears.”

The situation for adults does not appear to be much better....



Texas currently has more than 11,200 COVID-19 patients in hospital, higher than during last summer’s spike in cases.

Statewide, there are only 323 ICU beds available — as the number of people requiring hospital treatment spikes, fueled by the spread of the more contagious delta variant and the plateauing of the vaccination rate. The vast majority of people now being hospitalized with COVID-19 have not received the vaccine.

Jenkins’ comments came amid his legal battle over mask mandates with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R). Abbott, a Donald Trump apologist, last month signed an executive order declaring local governments could not require their wearing.

Jenkins successfully challenged the ruling and issued his own order requiring masks at schools and certain businesses. Abbott appealed that ruling to the 5th Court of Appeals in Dallas. The court upheld Jenkins’ order late Friday, reported The Dallas Morning News. Abbott has filed an appeal with the Texas Supreme Court.

Biden admin backs Texas, Florida districts on mask mandates

President Joe Biden's administration on Friday offered its full-throated support for local cities and school boards in Texas and Florida that are defying orders by their Republican governors that prohibit mask-wearing mandates in schools.

In a pair of open letters from Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, the administration condemned the orders from Govs. Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida which contravene public health guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cardona also noted that federal COVID-19 relief funds for schools could be used to fill any financial gaps caused by penalties imposed on local school districts by state leaders.

“The Department stands with these dedicated educators who are working to safely reopen schools and maintain safe in-person instruction,” Cardona wrote....

Georgia County Shuts Down All Schools Amid Major Student COVID Outbreak

A Georgia county has shut down all 11 of its public schools just over a week after classes began, amid a “sharp increase” in student coronavirus cases.

Schools in Ware County in southeastern Georgia are now closed until at least Aug. 27, and students won’t be allowed back until Sept. 7 at the earliest, according to officials. Schools will not offer virtual classes during that time, according to WSAV-TV.

Only 29% of people in Ware County have been fully vaccinated. Georgia ranks among the bottom eight states in terms of vaccination rates, with just 39.4% of its population fully vaccinated.

Tonight I helplessly held the hand of and stroked the hair of a beautiful 14 year old girl as she exited this world. She was looking forward to starting high school and eventually becoming a veterinarian. It was so senseless! I truly believe she could have been saved if her parents had not forbidden us from intubating her. A free vaccination would have prevented it all! This little girl was robbed of her whole life and of fulfilling all of her dreams. She had been with us 9 days and was able to communicate well until taking a turn for the worse yesterday. About 2 hours later we were unable to save a 25 year old mother of 1 who was 15 weeks pregnant. She had refused the vaccines because of the lies about them causing infertility and harming her baby. Liars killed her, her baby and robbed a 2 year old little boy of his mommy and sibling. Not to mention robbing a husband of his wife and child. Those were 2 of 4 deaths we had tonight with the oldest being 45 years old! It was the 1st time since late March we have lost more than 3 covid patients in a single shift. Then we find out this morning a coworker had 2 of her tires cut in 1 of our employee parking lots overnight! Fortunately, security caught and was able to detain the asshole until police arrived and took him into custody. Fuck the big orange buffoon, DeSantis, Facebook, Fox news, antivaxxers, magas, Dr Mercola, Robert Kennedy Jr, all parents who believe these killers over proven science and ALL other killers who spread anti vaccine lies. I can't deal with people right now! I love you guys!
